According to Famitsu.

Set after the end of Vol 3 of the original.

They really seem to be going above and beyond for this remaster.

Always wanted to play the .hack games but obviously never could because of the pricing and such, cool that I'll be able to try them out

i have the 4 part and 3 part .hacks and have only played through 1.5 of the 4 part series. The dungeons were so god damn repetitive even if the story was mildly interesting.

I hear the gu series is better developed. Maybe ill skip the rest and play it

G.U. is definitely better IMO, but the dungeons are still very same-y.

Is one of the many animes/mangas/whatever a retelling of the IMOQ series that could be watched/read instead of playing the four games to get the same part of the backstory for GU?

I actually think there was a manga or LN or something that told the story of IMOQ through the point of view of BlackRose (the female lead, as opposed to Kite the main/playable character in the games).

Not 100% sure though, or even if it was completed/translated.

G.U. has a movie, but I didn't think IMOQ did.

Edit: oh lol

Article with more detailed information
(Warning: The Article itself contains massive spoilers for the 3 G.U. games, I'll try to list as much of the non-spoiler stuff as I can):
www.rpgsite.net/news/5862-hack-g-u-last-recode-will-have-brand-new-4th-volume-out-in-japan-on-november-1

Okay, here's my summary if you don't/can't read the article (spoilers are tagged of course, and apply for all 3 G.U. volumes):

-JPN Release Date is November 1st.
-The Vol 4 Subtitle, in Japan, is "Or Dreams of Snakes that Connect the World" (lol good luck trying to get that to fit the English naming scheme so far!)
-Vol 4 takes place 15 months after the end of Vol 3. It appears that the premise is The World is due to shut down by the end of the year and Haseo is still looking for Ovan after the events of Vol 3. He finds him in a new Lost Ground encased in a crystal of ice. He's unable to free him so he calls the gang back together again. Not sure if it's the whole gang though. Later on the article mentions that Silabus, Gaspard, Atoli, Shino, Alkaid, and Tabby are confirmed. I assume the other Epitaph Users will return too but Atoli being in that list makes me wonder because otherwise I'd just assume that was the non-Epitaph group returners.
-Vol 4 will introduce a new character named Kusabira who seems to be tied into Vol 4's plot.
-Haseo gets a new form in Vol 4. Weapon is a whip-sword

I read some comments on NeoGAF that are saying it's also been said that Silabus and Alkaid will get new content for them. Not sure if that's referencing the Vol 4 stuff in spoilers or if it means they're having added content in the original 3 Volumes. Hoping for the latter, but either way that sounds great.

again. above and beyond.

Yeah, that part about the possible new content for that character was great to hear. I was going to say "unexpected and very much welcomed" but I feel like I could say that every time news about Last Recode comes out, including it even existing.
