How many of us can have a recipe or repair instructions right in front of us and still screw up the project? Total recall wouldn't help that. Same applies to understanding. I can recite a physics equation but have no idea what I'm talking about. Then of course when I have a problem that isn't in any book I'm borked having gotten too used to just instantly absorbing knowledge to solve a problem and I won't have the best of problem solving skills. Fluent in the language? I don't know. It depends on how smart you are, and how well and quickly you could apply that knowledge to your own brain. You would instantly have literal translations of specific words memorized, but you'd still have to apply the grammatical structure of a new language with your own intellect. If that's all contained in a book, then you have it all memorized, but language can be a tricky thing. I'd say that you'd probably still require some practice with the language, even after obtaining all the knowledge regarding that language. Additionally I get the feeling that your knowledge will be so far beyond the comprehension of normal people that you will have to do everything by yourself. So I'll take flight just so I can go on holidays whenever I want without going through airport security etc. Besides, if the flight speed is fast enough I can be like Koro-sensei and grab whatever I want to eat from the other side of the world whenever I feel like.
