Dawn of Discovery is $3. It will be the best $3 you ever spend.

I fear that it wouldn't run well on my shitty computer, but I've always liked the idea of it.

Like a waaaaaay more intricate tropico. 1404 is set in the middle ages too.

Graphics are great, but they dumbed it way down and removed a ton of features. Go for 2070 instead.

Probably DRM complaints. The game is actually really good, but I recommend Dawn of Discovery (aka Anno 1404) for beginners.

City builder, but more micro management than tropico. The supply chain mechanics are spot on imo. I've only played 2070, but you had to set up extensive trade networks between the islands to get them to grow more beyond the 2nd stage.

When 2070 came out it had maybe the most draconian DRM there could be. Like a 3 install limit and shit like that. Upgrading anything on yer PC would eat an install. It was eventually patched out though. I agree with the guy above the game itself is good.

would i be subjecting myself to some undue hell if i just skipped straight to 2070?

No, but the learning curve is a bit steeper.

This, but it's manageable. Just realize yer production means on any given island will be limited. There is a bunch of micro management. More advanced end products have several middle stages of production so there is a lot of trading and stuff going on. You need to be planing moves in advance as you go so you don't stall growth/economy/etc by getting bogged down in the production chain.
