If the tipping system wasn't in place your food would cost more and people would be bitching that it costs too much to eat out.

Guaranteed the price increase would be less than it costs to tip. Servers not getting enough in tips have to be paid the difference in minimum wage anyway, so all the extra that tips provide is gravy. Tip inflation is definitely a thing. Before you know it, 30% will be the minimum acceptable tip.

They can be fired instead, so no they don't have to be paid. Not getting tips just makes restaurant owners think their servers are bad at their job. That is what happens when you are expected to do something and fail at it at your job. What doesn't happen is businesses thinking they should pay their employees more.

You know what could stop tip inflation? Raising minimum wage and not allowing people to work for tips.

Okay, that still doesn't change the fact that price increases would be smaller than what we have to pay in tips as deemed acceptable by our society. Tip amount is rarely ever actually based on quality of service, by the way, so those employers would be wrong. Servers like to put on a victim complex, but some make tons of money off tips and if they're tipped in cash then they could easily keep it unreported come tax time.

It doesn't matter if it is wrong. That is how employers view it. They are the bad guys here, not the servers. I know America loves to punch down, but come on.

and yet it's the customer who's considered a bad guy for not following a system established by these greedy employers.

I tipped my masseuse 20 on 60 last week. You know why?

Cuz she was hot as fuck, and she'll remember it. Big blue eyes, burly arms, petite. So next month when she's rubbing my body down again, she'll be sure to do a good job. And I'm gona enjoy every second of it.
