kids can be exposed to call of duty and nobody cares but if a kid sees one boob on television then people flip out big time

nobody even flinches if a body is mutiliated and decapitated in gruesome ways but if someone says a naughty word and someone's butt is seen then complaints will be spammed online

i just find it disturbing how over the top gore and violence doesn't even get a reaction out of anyone even if it's something kids would be seeing

but nudity and curse words are somehow worse than seeing someone's body crushed by a tractor

where is the logic?

Nudity and curse words are not part of everyday life. So of course they wouldn't be allowed to see them.

But grotesque violence? Shit's regular in America. Just last week I saw someone brutally impaled by a log on a highway (people seriously need to learn to stop driving behind trucks loaded with wood). And the week before that I saw a bull walking around with a child's body slung between its two horns. Parents probably thought it'd be fun to let their kid try bullfighting. Probably won't do it for the next kid though, you live and you learn.

Makes me wonder what kind of age rating the Flodder film series got in the US, from what I understand it has been released there...

curse words aren't a part of everyday life? clearly You've never seen people stuck in a traffic jam or watched someone smash their foot into something by accident

when people get mad as hell they are prone to cussing

families across the country get into arguments with all sorts of colorful words thrown back at each other

A lot of things seem to baffle you.

Except that violent games ARE subject to the ERB which is censorship and that games themselves aren't put in public

Also edited for TV. Maybe you're just baffled because you don't understand how anything works.

Again, you wouldn't see any gruesome element on tv except perhaps on the news which is largely immune to censorship.

Every place I've ever worked, people calmly use casual swearing in normal conversation.
I hear far more swearing from laid back people than I ever do from angry ones.

And yeah, TC. It's weird and stupid and makes no sense. Which makes it pretty obvious what the source of those censorship attitudes is. religion

Swearing is inappropriate. Why would people use inappropriate language?

It's not normal. People don't swear.

yeah no....by that logic beating your neighbor over the head with a steel chair would be normal

you get sent to jail for violence

just telling someone you don't have time for their [Expletive] isn't gonna net you jail time

but beating the crap out of someone will

Yet you'd be surprised at how many kids under 17 have played CoD and talk about it in public; same with GTA V. Some parents don't monitor what their kids play; all they care about is keeping the kid QUIET so they can rest after a hard days' work.

That is the parent's shortcoming.

Puritans. They are the moral ancestor of the country and wanted nothing to do with sexual imagery etc. (they bred like rabbits of course but that sort of hypocrisy is baked in to most of the system too) but nothing was ever specified about violence when they stuck their nose into the rule making because all of the money/land was coming out of disenfranchising indigenous people, by force if necessary-see manifest destiny, et al.
Europe has a much more healthy view-sex is good, fun and the human body is nothing to be embarrassed about, violence is permissible if necessary to make a point but doesn't need to be glorified and who cares what words you say because they're just words.

I thoroughly agree, except that's not the reality and you know it. Look at Australia's rating system-they've essentially banned a lot of games with their R18+ 'not classified' crap loophole because they're worried kids will see it. they're right because a lot of parents are too stupid/lazy to watch what the kid is playing but it's not the government's place to dabble in censorship.
