I think we should be able to trade in our older games for previous systems for virtual copies of the same game now that they are available.

Both Nintendo and Sony have many of the games I own on PS1/PS2/PS3/N64/Gamecube etc available on the new systems.

But I already have paid for those games, and I even still own them (even if I don't own the system for them anymore in the gamecube's case).

So....why don't they just let people send in the games and get virtual copies added to their account? Only thing you need to pay for is the shipping.

I'm tired of repaying for games I already own.

I love this idea. It won't ever happen because rereleases make these companies a ton of money, but it's an awesome idea.

Avoiding sending in physical copies, it would be cool if they could recognize games that you've purchased digitally that later get a remaster or whatever and give you some sort of credit or discount for repurchase. I could see that happening before any trade-in program for physical copies, but it won't happen either lol

So you want to trade in your physical copy games for digital versions? .... someone likes flushing money down the toilet.

Ya ill just trade in my $15000+ game collection plus shipping for zero value digital games that may not be available to re download down the road. Seems like a smart idea to me.

If the game publishers actually did this they would make a killing selling the physical copies online so ya they should do this. Suikoden II is what $150 right now and digital is what $10 or less?

Also to note that a lot of games play and look much better on original hardware than emulated on newer consoles.

Iunno when I tried to play ps1 games on my ps3 they looked terrible. Also nes and snes games on my wii u didn't look that great either. Maybe not all are like this but in my experience ya they look worse.

I know you can make money off selling the old copies, and in theory in many cases more then buying a digital version would cost, but they could even probably partner with gamestop or similar stores and let people trade games in there for virtual copies as well.

It just seems wrong that I have paid multiple times for so many games at this point. I just don't set up my older systems anymore, and that is a ton of games to just go to waste.

I can even understand charging something for the effort of converting it (although they still will make plenty selling to new people who don't own the game). If they did something like a trade in for half price etc, I bet they would actually sell more of the virtual games, and net more over all because of it.

Oh well, your right it probably won't happen, but it sure would be nice. I wish I could just get rid of all my physical games all together and have one big library that I could play, controlled by my computer (it actually turns on the right system and sets your TV to the right channel etc for you).

They could probably make a program for that, and since all the new systems connect to home networks/wifi at this point, it wouldn't really be that hard to set up, you just need to have all your games available digitally, and someone needs to write a master gaming program.

They probably weren't upscaled. The real trick is to play them on your computer at high resolution with post-processing. Looks 100x better than the original usually.
