This will be a long journey into darkness, as I fight to stay alive in the Zombie apocalypse. Also, may have minor spoilers for the game 7 days to die.

So, I have finally lived long enough to have some chance of surviving. The first 3 journeys ended before my first night finished. So, on my 4th attempt, I decided to find the last quest store first, and then search for somewhere to call home.

By this point I had realized that buildings are freaking dangerous, so, this time I decided to....avoid them....at least till I had a decent number of arrows to shoot from my bow. With this in mind I crafted a stone axe, grabbed a ton of loose stone and wood, and created 100 arrows. When I leveled up from doing the baby quests, I increased my weapon crafting skill so my bow and club both had 50 durability as well.

With this in hand, I went searching and found a nice 2 story house with only a few zombies inside (Figures, I prepare so much this time and there was no nead). I did encounter a wolf, but shot it with my bow while it was trying to get over/around the porch (revenge for a previous wolf death.....I thought it was a friendly dog, went to pet it, and it ate me).

Of course, you can't just go into a house in 7 days to die, you have to break down the door, and in the process of breaking down the second story door, a small horde of zombies decided I looked tasty and broke through the door downstairs (and the wall around it). I got hurt a bit, but managed to slay them all, and then fixed the wall and created a new door for downstairs (at least this way I didn't need to break it down and replace it so it wasn't locked).

First mission accomplished, I now had a secure place to hang my hat, a bunch of places to store stuff (Fridge/counters/cabinets/stove). I placed my bedroll, although the only advantage I get from that is it prevents zombies from spawing downstairs (not upstairs though), since if I die, it's game over (usually you get teleported back to your bed).

All this hard work was making me thirsty (it wasn't the pretzels really!), and with fairly bad luck I had not gotten any bottled water along the way. I did have a bunch of murky water...but yeah, nobody wants to drink that.

So then began my second quest (with a few interruptions), the quest for drinkable water!!!!

Now, you would imagine that with a campfire, bottles of murky water, tin cans and a whole freaking house full of stuff, I could boil my water and be done in no time...fastest quest ever!!!

Nope, in fact you need a cooking pan for your campfire in order to boil water. In the craziest requirement in history, you can not create a cooking pan without an anvil and iron. You can't make an anvil without a forge, and you can't make a forge without bellows.

I traveled back to the trader place hoping they would have a forge or bellows or leather (they did have leather but it's 60 gold each piece, and you need 20 freaking pieces). They also had an anvil, but that is worthless without the forge.

It was getting a bit late, but....I figured I'd just search around and maybe find some animals to kill and get leather off them, or a house to raid (I was killing zombies left and right along the way for fun). I traveled due west for what seemed like hours and arrived at a large town.

Large towns in 7 days to die are dangerous, with lots of zombies everywhere...it's not somewhere you want to end up at night, but I was brave (stupid) and decided to explore anyway. In the process of breaking into about 5 homes, I found that some of the couches can be hacked up and give leather (ended up with 17 pieces of the 20 I need so far). In addition, on the 3rd house or so, I found 2 cooking pots in the kitchen. I then proceeded to find 2 more in both of the next 2 homes, ending up with 6 of them (only needed 1).

There was about an hour till 22:00 (official night time when zombies are much faster), so I decided to book it back home.

I didn't make it all the way back, but even so didn't have any problems getting back in the dark. Once home, I was very thirsty, so I lit up my campfire and finally, finally boiled my water (I now have like 20 bottles of drinking water).

I then decided that scary sounds and super fast zombies, sound like fun, and went back out to cut down trees and break rocks for material. I crafted about 500 arrows, and have about 1200 stacks of wood from the long night. I would crouch which lets me see if anyone has detected me, and if it said "You are being hunted" I would run back and go up the stairs. Nothing ever followed me back.

The next morning a plane flew overhead and dropped off supplies somewhere in the VERY far distance. I booked it towards the spot (so glad I changed it to mark air drops on the map), and in the box was...10........freaking healing kits. There was also a pistol with 8 ammo, which I may switch to after I figure out how to make ammo later...and 1 or two other things...but the healingkits are freaking awesome.

Meanwhile a zombie had bit me and I was infected (think it surprised me while chopping those trees I forget). Infection isn't that bad really, but I think if you don't cure it by the 7th day, you die (or turn into a zombie). Now it was still the same day I got bit, so I was pretty safe, but...the store I visited happened to have an alchemy station, and while there, I happened to notice you could make anti-biotics with moldy bread, water and one other ingrediant (That I had). So...when one of the zombies I wacked on my trip to pick up the supplies had moldy bread (2 actually), I decided to stop by the store, and cure myself.

And that ended my first day playing 7 days to die. I am now well rested with 105 stamina and health, I'm not hungry or thirsty. I have about 500 freaking arrows, a cooking pot for unlimited water (you can fill your empty bottles up at any water source and there is a river like 100 feet away from my house).

I'm ok on food, but have not been able to get much meat yet. That is my next quest as you can boost your wellness up to 210 (that would be your max stamina and health), but you can only boost it with certain foods (at least that I have found so far). I have 40 freaking eggs from nests, but without 2 pieces of meat, I can't make bacon and eggs (which boosts your wellness each time.

I do want to make the trek back to that town and explore the other homes as well...and eventually I want to find a cliff to dig into and make a secure bunker that is VERY hard for zombies to invade (Near to the house which will still hold most of my stuff).

I'll play more later tonight and keep updating what happens until I eventually die again (but hopefully not for along time...if I can get my max health up, perhaps annoying wolves won't one shot me anymore.

I really wanted to like that game because it seems like a pretty cool concept.

But, ugh, I dunno if I just didn't "get" it or what, but I just couldn't get into it when I played it :-/

I was close to giving up if I kept dying before I could even start. I'm not interested in playing past the point of my character dying as what is the point of a survival game...where you just keep surviving if you die.

With that change, some part of the game no longer make sense (IE the bedroll doesn't do much), but it certainly makes everything more dangerous/scary.

I'll probably die eventually again and then take a break for awhile before playing again (no clue how long I'll live, but I'm gonna plan ahead as best as possible to try and live a long time). Tons of things seem able to instantly kill you even right at the start though, and trial and error in such cases can...well be deadly.

At least I have a base of operations, full health, food and water for now. I'm gonna try and shore up some quick defenses for my home, get some better tools (A mine pick for instance), and then make a heavily fortified bunker. If I can get that done, I'll probably have a good chance of surviving awhile.

Well, played some more, till almost 3am.

I think I mentioned the first night I started mining down behind my house, so when day broke, I decided to make it a bunker of sorts. First I put wooden blocks all around the enterance of the mine, then a strong metal door in the middle. I then put wooden spikes on top of the entrance and all around it (Except for right in front so I could get in.

I decided to surround my house with spikes as well while I was at it, except for a small pit right in front which you have to jump over (which zombies can't do). This would quickly get filled with zombies and they would just walk over each other, except the zombies will avoid the pit and go through the spikes since it's more direct.

Meanwhile I ran around cutting tons of trees, and took a trip to the trader, (which was worthless) and before I knew it....it was nighttime. Oh yeah, I also got enough leather to make a bellows, made a forge, and then made an anvil. This lets me make forged iron and get better everything pretty much.

So the next night I went down in my mine..I had made a sort of platform about 30 feet down or so (gotta remember to place my bedroll there next time I play), and decided to keep going down.

Well, my hole is very deep now, and I figure I have to hit the bottom sometime soon, but after mining all night, dawn came and only 2 zombies died on my spikes. I cleaned them up, and decided to take a trip back to that large town today (I was hoping to find some food as I'm getting low).

That reminds me, there have been almost no animals so far to hunt at all. I killed a boar and a deer and had to hunt the deer super far to get him. I need more animal fat before tomorrow night as I'm out of torches, and I'd really like some meat for bacon and eggs.

Anyway my trip went ok, I got a sniper rifle and a bunch of schematics, and I killed a whole bunch of zombies (I'm certianly over 100 zombies killed by now). I did not find any food though, so when I got back I cooked up a bunch of hard boiled eggs. Seems like such a waste since bacon and eggs give WAY more, but I had over 40 eggs, and I'm not gonna get 20+ meat anytime soon.

This has bumped me up to 112 I think it was max health and stamina, so that is nice. Anyway that was it for tonight, seems short but it was a good 4 hours of play (and another day/night cycle pretty much). I think I'm on day 3, heading towards day 4 fast......and I believe there are large waves of zombies on your 7th night and every 7th night after that.

Not sure if I'll be safe in my hole on the 7th night, but that is why I created the fairly large underground room. If zombies do get in, I can probably take them out there. I really need some food, so tomorrow I will probably head back to a desert I saw, as I know I can get yuka plants there.

It got pooed on in reviews for the console versions. Did it ever get patches to improve the experience? I see the Steam love for it and wonder.... I could get it for PC, but I won't. I'd rather play it on Xbox One.

I got it on sale for $10 (still think the sale is on), and its' worth that. I wouldn't pay $40+ for it though.

I'm ....increasing...the enjoyment by restarting if I die. Without that it would be slightly tedious already I think, but this way I have extra motivation to avoid death.

If death just meant I restarted at my bedroll and loss a few items? Yeah, not much point to the game then.

That being said, I have not even made it to the first 7th night yet, so things may spice up a bit later. There are still a ton of things I can improve so that is something.

I'd say it's certainly worth $10 though.

Well, so much for that. I didn't die to a zombie, just a random cave in due to sand being mixed in with rock down below.

Spent the rest of the day shoring up defenses, planting trees etc, but only had a few hours left. Trained in science so I could make steel, tried to make TnT but think I need a chemestry station for it (was planning on hitting the traders to use his tomorrow).

Anyway, made a but of forged iron (had like 80 of it), upgraded to a spiked mace and heading down as night fell to mine some more (just decided to use the torches from higher up in my mine for the lower part).

So i'm mining away and I hit a bit of sand. While waiting to make a new pickaxe, I decide to get rid of some of the sand with my shovel. Boom.....cave in....I die.

End of story.

The zombies didn't get me at least, and I doubt they will ever find my body down there.

Sorry but if you don't play the game where death is final there is no challenge. If you do, there are too many instant death methods. I'll give it another chance sometime probably, but thats all she wrote for now.
