All this week I've been walking my Mareep to take advantage of the 3x buddy candy.

Yesterday afternoon, when I was 11 candy away from getting an Ampharos, I hatched a Mareep and it gave me 64 candy. thx pogo

Got the Tyranitar I needed to finish my Dex on Tuesday, my first Dragonite on Sunday, and met Great Paul totally by coincidence yesterday. The last week has been amazing for Pokemon Go.

I keep seeing Articuno raids all around after having got one, but no Lugia raids anywhere in my area to try.

I also got Cuno and Lugia today.

Of the ones available to me, I'm only missing Unown.

I've only seen one wild one, and that was also this week.

I don't mind, though. Gives me something to buddy (or did until yesterday). Right now I'm buddying Croconaw, and once I evolve him, I'll be out of pokemon to buddy. There are still a bunch of pokemon I don't have (including Chansey and Hitmonchan from gen 1) but nothing I can get by evolving stuff I already have.

After 23 raids this week i have 1 lugia and 2 Articuno. Im going to do 2 more Articuno raids right now before work but I'm saving my premium passes for moltres and zapdos now.

Funny thing about Mareep is, it's currently the Pokemon it will take me the longest to buddy to fully evolve, even more than Larvitar
I only encountered it once, and used a Pinap Berry

I made a little excel calculator to check how much KM I need to go with each Pokemon until it fully evolves

Yeah. Chester is full of pokestops. I've gotten three evo items in the last week.

Not sure if they still do them for 7-day streaks. Think they do though

I just got an ecstatic text from my girlfriend who caught Lugia. Felt like sharing.

I was crazy into the game for about a month starting at launch. Realized I'd gotten everything I needed out of it, and jumped through Niantic's hoops to have my account permanently deleted because I wanted to make sure I was totally done with it. Now I just enjoy it vicariously through her.

It's got an incredibly low catch rate.

An excellent curveball with golden razz and the +3 type capture bonus - which is an incredibly difficult throw to make, at least for me - is apparently only 24%.

I've never even made a throw that perfect (not on a legendary, anyway). The odds are pretty much always against you.

With no modifiers at all the odds are only 2%.

You get 10 or 15 shots though, right? (I've done one raid ever >_>) So even in that worst case scenario that's uh 1 - (.98^10) so....about 18.3%? Not much worse than 1 in 5 even if you can't get a better shot than that, but eesh.

It attacks often so you're probably going to miss a couple of them.

And the most I've had is 11, generally get 7 or 8.

If you're okay at the game and use Golden Raspberries on every through, you'll probably have about a 30% chance to catch Lugia and a 45% chance to catch Articuno every Raid you do. Higher if you can curve.

Ive gone through the catch mechanic math in great detail. Ive gone through it enough to know that I've been completely ****ed by RNG this week.


15 Articuno attempts.

Average 7-8 ball per encounter.

I am always patient to make sure i connect.
I always use curve balls because that bonus is better than even the "great throw" bonus.

I have the full bonus for flying (modifier 1.3)
I have the bronze bonus for ice (modifier 1.1)
That averages to a 1.2 modifier.

1.2 (type modifier) x 2.5 (golden razz) x 1.5 (approx average great bonus) x 1.7 (curve ball).

7.65 which you multiply be catch rate. It used to be 2 on Articuno which gave a 15.3% chance per throw. It is now 3 which gives 22.95% chance per throw.


But let's assume only 7 balls using the old catch rate.

7 chances with a 15.3% chance to succeed. 84.7% chance to fail.

The chance of failing 7 times in a row is 31.27%. So the chance to succeed in the scenario ive outlined is 68.73%.


Ive attempted Articuno 15 times and only got 2. Thats with never missing and always curving.

I will get 2 more free attempts on Sunday but I'm saving my premium passes for the next birds.

They are common at the moment, but limited time only. Cuno ends tomorrow I think, then Moltres for a week, then Zapdos. I presume Lugia will be another two weeks and will be replaced by Ho-Oh and the Dogs.

Niantic have announced that the Pokémon GO Safari Zone events in Copenhagen, Prague, Stockholm and Amsterdam have all been postponed to a currently unrevealed date later this autumn. The France, Spain & Germany events in September are still set to run. A new patch will be going live for Pokémon GO very soon. This patch brings the game up to Version 1.39.1 and provides a variety of fixes. Like, you go there by yourselves hoping that you will find more players there?
You go with friends you know?
You go with random people you pick during your hunt?

I personally STILL can't do raid battling at all, I tried a week ago and got an error when I started a raid and I tried again and same damn thing, I have no idea how to fix it

That's what I do! It's worked out well so far. I did two Lugia raids over lunch hour. Beat both (although the first one was pretty close since we had eight idlers on board), caught the second one.

idk about discord, but we have a facebook group and messenger chat for ours as well. We can raid 15+ strong pretty much throughout the day. You just have to figure out where an active group is and catch up to them on their route.

At first I figured I was going to have to wait around at random raids hoping people would show up, but then my friend told me about a discord group my city has. That's how I discovered that Mac and I were at the same raid.

So far I'm at:
2/4 on Articuno
1/5 on Lugia
1/1 on Moltres

Lugia was super annoying because my first 4 tries I only had 5-6 balls each time. On Monday I found one at a red gym and joined with a Valor group to finally catch one.

Also it's dumb how uncommon Unown is. There's a medal for getting all of them but most people are lucky just to have one, and I get nobody has even got 10 unique ones yet.

Should be more common with the challenge being to get all of them, not just to get 1.
