I think when I was moving my computer something somehow got out of place because the monitor only displays green now.

If I take pictures of the inside of my computer I hope that someone can tell me what the problem is if I can't figure it out myself.

Nah I've tried that, and I tried getting a new cord too.

So can any of you geniuses (not meant to sound sarcastic) tell me why my monitor is only showing green based on the inside of my computer? I think something got out of place when I was moving it.

If you're wondering what's going on in this photo I had to replace the hard drive.

Not trying to sound rude but I don't think any of those wires have anything to do with the display. Make sure your graphics card isn't loose or that any prongs for your display cables aren't bent.

What kind of cable are you using to connect your display?

How do I check the graphics card? (I think the cable prongs are fine)

I would just take it out and put it back. Make sure nothing is bent.

Also I don't know if this will help, but I have the HDMI connection too. When I discovered this green screen thing I also saw that my HDMI TV connection wasn't being detected.

Bent pins or poor connection on the VGA plug can cause the issue you are describing. If you replaced the cable, it might be the port on your video card/motherboard that is the problem. Try another output if you have an option.

Also try defaulting the settings on your display if you haven't already.

I might have to get someone to do that for me. I honestly don't know how anything could be bent. I very carefully carried the computer into my car, drove it to my new place, and set it up only to see this green screen nonsense. When I saw it I just thought "Okay fine I'll just display it on the TV with the HDMI", but that isn't being detected for whatever reason, so I can't switch the display. (Well to be more specific the computer does register the connection when I start it up, but the option to switch the display doesn't show) Everything was working perfectly before I moved the computer :(
I might just record a video to show what I'm talking about.

Take a look at all your ports. We can't really tell from pictures.

You mean to display on the HDMI? (because the cpu starting up on my TV looks fine) I'll try to switch the default display despite the option to switch to the TV display not showing/being available.

I do clean out the dust thank you very much. I'll also be spraying it off again once I figure out what's wrong.

Like what, once every few years? Either that or wherever you live is disgusting if it accumulates that fast.

1st of all you don't have a graphics card. Your graphics are integrated into the motherboard/CPU

So I don't really see anything wrong inside.

It looks like you have a DVI connection (the white port) so maybe try that if your monitor has DVI, or get a DVI to VGA adapter

Or try playing with the settings on the computer or TV until it detects the output from HDMI

If the display is still messed up then something happened to your motherboard while the computer was being transported (maybe the solder cracked somewhere after a bump in the road or something). Or possibly your monitor (I would try testing the monitor with another computer if possible)

Another option would be to add a graphics card but most likely it would have to be cheap/low power since pre-built computers typically don't have a power supply with enough output or connectors to add a powerful card.

This was very informative, thanks. Do you really think the motherboard could be damaged? Because as far as I can tell the computer works fine other than the fact that it's only showing the color green. (And for some reason not detecting the HDMI, but I still haven't messed around with the settings much)

Oh and btw the computer shows just fine on the tv when it starts up and when I did a system restore.

It might just be something with the port itself on the motherboard (so the rest of it could be fine). So that's why I suggest trying to use the DVI port instead and see if you have the same problem

When I use only the DVI port the computer starts up and looks fine on the TV, but once it gets to the user login/desktop it will only show on the monitor, and if the monitor isn't plugged in the TV just remains black. I'll have to try and mess around with the settings tomorrow. Gotta go to sleep.

We have determined that it is software related. When uninstalling the intel graphics the computer re-installs the drivers and goes back to normal. There could be a virus, because it looks normal, but it eventually goes back to green. I'm thinking a full system restore and a good antivirus might fix the problem.
