No wonder I feel like such an oddball. Only 3 percent of the population apparently

You should learn the cognitive functions. It's the only way to actually type yourself.

The online tests are largely bull****. They test for behaviors. But MBTI is not a behaviorist theory. It is a cognitive theory dealing with how you actually take in information and make decisions. All the types can have the same outward behavior but for WILDLY different cognitive reasons. This is why people mistype so often with the online tests. Not to mention the rampant fetishizing of certain MBTI types (because of their "rarity") makes people want to test as those types even more leading to more mistypes.

In order to accurately type yourself you need to determine which cognitive functions you use and in what order of preference.

I recommend Michael Pierce on Youtube. He's a great resource.

I am frequently on the fence between INFJ / INTP. I's completely up to when I take the test and cognitive bias. I feel that I most relate to INFJ so that's what I say I am. Either I am in Feeling/Judgmental mode or I'm in Thinking/Perceptive mode. These personality traits aren't mutually exclusive.

The IN part of it is definitely in stone. I don't think I've ever tested out of any of the INXX side of the test.

The INFJ functional stack is: Ni, Fe, Ti, Se
The INTP funcitonal stack is : Ti, Ne, Si, Fe

(The two letters are abbreviations btw, the real names take too long to type out)

They only share two functions. And having your feeling side be either second in line, or last doesn't really make sense. I go back to my suggestion of looking into the cognitive functions.

This guy never learned the theory.

He even starts out the article showcasing that he doesn't even know what introversion and extroversion mean in MBTI.

MBTI is based on Jungian psychology. Introversion and Extroversion in the jungian sense has nothing to do with your social introversion / extroversion.

He's a tenured professor with a Ph. D in Psychology. That doesn't necessarily mean that you're wrong, but I have a hard time believing he wouldn't have know the theory.

Well I actually agree with him about the tests and modern MBTI system being trash.

It's all based on Jungian Typology though, which is what I go by. So I view MBTI as an extension of Jungian Typology. They're not incompatible, but the crap that the modern people peddle in the tests and descriptions are largely bogus.
