It's for people who want to impress other people with their intelligence but can't do so with any real world achievements, so they have to join some dumb club. You send them money, you get a little card that says you're in the club, you get some "deals" from advertisers, and then you probably get to go to some meetups where everyone is just trying to one-up each other constantly.
