i have a bachelor degree already in a 'useless' subject so i would be doing a second bachelor degree. i wanted to do graduate studies in social work but most people i talk to say it's a terrible field with bad pay. also, i have no volunteer or work experience so getting a job would be a nightmare.

it would take me ~2.5 years to get a CS degree since i get credits from my previous degree carried over. the social work program is 2 years so it's not really that much more time. they cost about the same.

Well CS has a hell of a lot more salary and employment potential than social work, but you should do some online javascript tutorial or something on a site like codeacademy to see if you like it first, as they are totally different careers.
