Well three characters and a Lawful Evil Fairy for light scouting/rogue stuff.

It seems most campaigns and stuff like CR is balanced for at least four characters, and beyond that there are a number of different roles a party pretty much needs to excel, like a rogue. I made up the three main characters, and gave them some homebrew stuff to try and balance things out and cover all of the major bases, but without being too cookie cutter/spread thin. Do they look alright so far?

I'm going to do some work on this later, but still give me some feedback if you can.

Hah, reminds me of the time when I was going to play an Unseelie Pixie Assassin in 4e. Like an evil goth Tinkerbell who flies in through your window and then pours poison in your ear.

Probably should have posted this in that other D&D topic now that I think about it, but oh well.

Uh, you probably should just let people play their own character.
Also lol, the highest Stat on the barbarian is Con.

You sort of passively mentioned Malfunction Rolls, are you saying that if you roll badly on damage, you get a cumulative -1 on damage? Because no, stop that. I imagine you're trying to go for a weapon degredation feeling, but holy poop that's awful.
Melee people are going to be doing badly soon enough anyway when casters are passively throwing around Lightning Bolt's, and then they get screwed harder and have to remember a bunch of floating numbers? Nope, that's going to be forgot so much, nobody wants that.

Also, I think your Stat generation is off, humans get a +1 to all stats, and the barbarian has an 8, which using standard point buy (which is what I imagine you did, or some sort of array), you literally cannot start out with a 7. So somethings off.

I would also recommend giving the players the magic items through the game, rather than starting out.

The barbarian's weapons suck. using a lightning bolt disables the combat for 4 turns? Shooting the crossbow makes it more likely to malfunction? The claw-hammer malfunctions 10% of the time in exchnage for being able to turn into a great axe or hammer? Fuck that noise.

I'm playing all of them simultaneously.
That was decided because I'm the type who would sacrifice pure optimization for flavor. Blackwood is actually pretty petite and even her STR of 14 would be comically unlikely from someone her size. The CON being so high shows how ridiculously tough she is though. Honestly I spent a ton of time trying to even find the right class for her, and Barb might not be it. What would you make someone who is very strong and tough, but also intelligent/savvy enough to make gnome style mechanical inventions but who hates magic? I mean I don't want to minmax, but I don't want to get murdered by a couple of goblins either, so I need a balance.

I just meant on critical misses, which regardless of anything happening to the weapon, I will make sure something bad happens to the character one way or another. Maybe the weapon gaining a "damaged" counter on an attack roll of 1 and say 5 counters rendering the weapon worthless, unless it's repaired by someone before reaching that point could work?

I used the point buy system plus Variant Human, so I think everything checks out as far as stats go, although I'm sure there are some technical errors in there somewhere.

I'm most worried about how the early game will go, and for back story/flavor reasons I want them to have the items early, maybe not right out of the gate, but early.

Yeah, looking at it, I went a bit too hard at trying to show her weapons are highly experimental. Ok, when in Hammer mode, the Claw Hammer is just normal, but when it transforms a percentile roll is made and on 04 or lower it shocks her for, I dunno, 1d12 damage? When in Claw mode it does an additional 1d4 Lightning damage (for, I dunno a max of 8 turns before it loses it's charge) but on a critical miss it shorts out and shocks her for the same. As for the X-Bow, change the "malfunction rate" to 1 point for each bolt shot, so shooting one would be the same as shooting a normal crossbow. If she shoots all four bolts at once there would be a 20% chance for it to... Just not fire? Like she would waste her turn. With the Lightning Bolts a critical miss/malfunction would do the self shock thing (1d12) but never disable the weapon. I'll just make the LBs rare or something.

Thanks for the feedback peeps.

Well I was running a game for my friend and some of his idiot posse, but they hadn't been over in a month while I slaved away making dungeons and NPCs, only to finally tell me the other day they weren't "into it" anymore. I should have known they would pull something like that considering how much the bitched during play about every little thing.

Nothing of value was lost, because I'm not going to let my work go to waste, I'll use it myself.

Lmao, I would love a full report of you playing characters in a game you hand crafted yourself, roleplaying your own character (out loud, of course) to your own NPC (also out loud).

Alright when I get things finalized I'll keep you all updated on the campaign. I should be ready to go by tomorrow.
