TFA was atrocious, so that's one. How many more?

Star Wars TFA and even Rogue One are proof that a brand alone can carry a film to a box office success

We've only had one great Star Wars movie. (V)
We've had two okay Star Wars movies. (IV, VI)
We've had three whatever Star Wars movies. (III, TFA, RO)
We've had two bad Star Wars movies. (I, II)

In conclusion, with eight movies and less than half of them being ok (and only one of them actually being legitimately good), I don't think people will turn away from the franchise.

BULLSHIT. ANH is an incredible film from beginning to end. The effects maybe don't hold up, but as a movie it's absolutely stellar and stands as a timeless piece of storytelling and filmmaking craft.

Anyways to answer TCs question, who knows? A few clunkers in a row will damage any brand, especially considering SW is now an annual event which has never been before.

It's an okay film with nothing impressive about it other than the fact that it's special effects have aged very well. The action scenes are bad (go rewatch the light saber fight between Darth Vader and Obi wan lol), the story is predictable and straightforward and it's longer than it needs to be. Han Solo essentially carried the entire original trilogy by himself.

I feel like the original trilogy was decent and that was about it. There have been some fun / good books set in the Star Wars universe, and some interesting video games, but... as far as cinema goes, they don't really hold much merit.

star wars is the most overrated franchise in movies

old trilogy is way overhyped by the turbo nerds who lived during the 70's.
new trilogy is boring af.
tfa is just a garbage rehash of turbo nerd garbage.

Some have already stopped going to see the new SW films in theaters after TFA was such dog shit.

I wait for the films to come on tv now as I refuse to waste money on them, saw RG1 on netflix yesterday and while it was better then TFA I am glad I did not see it in theaters.

Not seeing TLJ until it is on tv since the trailer for TLJ did nothing for me and I do not like the direction the new trilogy is going. The PT and SE of the OT was worth seeing in theaters but not this new garbage.

I mean, I hadn't gone to the movies for a Star Wars movie since Episode 1 (and never saw 2 or 3). Went to see TFA, was thoroughly annoyed and unimpressed, and decided to call it quits on that...

@Hexenherz

Episode 3: Revenge of The Sith is worth seeing, it is easily the best of the prequels and is on the same level as the OT.

The last hr of Ep. 2 AOTC is good as well in my book but it is not a solid film from start to finish.

Honestly though the PT is still better then anything in TFA or anything in TLJ trailer.

Except it doesn't prove anything of the sort. TFA and RG1 were great. ROTS wasn't as bad as the other prequels, but it was filled with bad acting, bad pacing, and lots of style over substance.

TFA apes ANH badly and tries so hard to be like it without having a good cast of new characters, a joke/ineffective villain who acts like a baby who shit his diapers, and gets beaten by a nobody with no training.

Lets not forget the way they do a complete dis service to Han Solo sending him out like a stupid idiot.

I'm a sucker for Star Wars lore. I was devastated when a lot of the stories I grew up with were no longer canon. But the fact that everything from here on out is canon I'm officially committed. It'd have to get really bad, like Christmas special bad for me to wash my hands of Star Wars. I liked a lot of The Phantom Menace, hated most of AotC. TFA was decent but I liked Rogue One(missed the opening crawl though).

Who would actually argue TFA was a better A New Hope than the original?

Do people really like Rey and Kylo more than Luke and Vader?
Because if that was really the case, then why was the whole fucking movie "hey look it's that character from a New Hope"

If the new characters and the remake was so much better, why did it reference an A New Hope character every 5 fucking seconds?

What makes the new characters worse than the ones introduced in ANH?

Remember when Darth Vader, a Jedi Master and prodigy with decades of training, got beaten by his son, who just became a Jedi Knight after training for 2-3 years in RotJ? It's Star Wars, The Force basically picks who it wants to win.

Yeah, it was real stupid for Han Solo to try and reason with his son and save his life.
