I have to disagree with you.

I remember the days when nerd/geek/comic/video game movies were on the precipice of barely getting greenlit, and if they did, they were poorly constructed cash-ins.

Nowadays, the most popular shows on TV are The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Big Bang Theory. The MCU & DCEU are two of the most profitable franchises in the world, and comics/novels that I thought would never see the light of day in other media forms have been adapted left and right (Sin City, Preacher, Valerian).

We are living in great times right now.

Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter had their time in the limelight.

They did, but I'd love to see some of the classic series receive that treatment. Like Wheel of Time, but without all the shawl twitching and skirt smoothing.

They are not their own genre

I don't mind having comic book movies, but I am kinda disappointed that they seem to be the only source of action and imagination in American cinema.

I mean, they're not the only source, but it seems like someone could come up with a good screenplay for a film like Die Hard or Raiders of the Lost Ark and an executive would say, "That's great. Now what superhero would fit this story?"

Theres a level of interaction with cbm. Like if people wanted to find out more, they can goto the comics instead of waiting for the next movie.

Sure franchises started that way but comics already provides the source material for these movies than the other way.

But it's what sells on the global market (e.g. China), and they love them some dumb, shallow, action films, so expect to keep seeing them churn them out.

honestly it's a great time to be alive for film fans
sure, comic book movies are pretty much a by-the-numbers deal that don't have much going for them once you get past the pretty lights, but if that's not your thing there are a whole load of pretty good movies coming out all the time
gotta look past the summer blockbusters

for instance i didn't know valerian was a comic book movie before it was mentioned itt.

just because they get hyped up more than every other movie =/= oversaturation
