You have to undersatnd that humans are a survivalist species where our primary concern is to continue our bloodline. So it is only natural for most of us to NOT support that, as it contradicts our very means of survival.

Well the problem is that we need to have a very clear definition of exactly what "trans" means

I'm a guy. I've always been a guy.

If I wake up tomorrow and post on facebook that I now consider myself a girl and then I buy a wig, does this make me trans? Then the next day I change my mind, I'm not trans anymore?

There has to be a criteria that's more than I am whatever gender I feel like being.

gay is gay, there is no spectrum. you like to fuck dudes, you like to fuck chicks, you like to fuck chicks who look like dudes, that's cool and no one should have a problem with that

trans has a spectrum, some are pre-op and some are post op, some are simply identifying as one gender without taking an steps to change their gender but demanding rights, it's more complicated and needs to be handled as such, but if you're cool with flopping dicks around 10 year old girls in bathrooms that's your thing bro and maybe see a doctor

Society has an issue with bathrooms if you're not passable as the sex you identify as. No one wants somebody who looks like a man in the women's room. If you're passable, it's a total non-issue.

Building off frozenshock's and Virus731's posts, there also seems to be a difference in their endgames.

From what I understand, gays wanted to be treated the same as straight people. That seems to have been achieved. Gay marriage is legal, sexual orientation (and gender identity) is a protected class, and, for the most part, homosexuality is socially acceptable.

Trans people seem like they won't be satisfied until everybody in the country calls them whatever pronoun they want to be called and straight men have equal dating preference towards them as females.

What I think is a shame is this...

I have no doubt that gender identity disorder or whatever you call it is a real thing.

I have no doubt that some people suffer tremendously because they're trapped in the wrong body.

Those people deserve support because it must really suck. If transitioning into another gender can help them from that misery, it's really dickish to impede them.

The problem I have is that it seems to me that there's a whole bunch of other people who basically hijacked the whole thing and made it out to be basically a fad with all those weird non-binary genders. That wasn't what it was supposed to be about. You don't just wake up and decide you want to be trans because it's cool. It's something that for some people is a lifelong struggle.

Unfortunately, it's those who take it as a fad who get the most attention and it really cheapens the experience of people who are truly struggling with a legitimate disorder

Then tell me: What exactly is it they want to fight for? What is it going to take for them to be considered "accepted?"

The gay community at least had a huge legal cause to push for (gay marriage), while it seems like the worst legal is the trans community has put forth is "what bathroom can I pee in?" The rest seems to be issues with how they're treated socially, which isn't something that's going to be brought in front of the Supreme Court.

The problem is that transgender is lumped under the LGBT umbrella and mistakenly regarded as an "alternative gender" rather than a medical condition*, which makes any discussion of them one of politics, rather than one of legitimate disorder.

If the message was simply to respect people who had the condition, like we mostly do with people who have any other type of legitimate condition they were born with, people would probably have accepted them long ago. But instead, we went down this ridiculous feelings-based route that tried to normalize it, and added garbage like 73 genders on top of that, and now the opponents actually have legitimate openings to oppose the movement. Whereas if it was just treated as a medical condition from the get-go, this wouldn't be the case.

* Note for markers and mods: "Medical condition" does not mean mental disorder. Transgenderism is undeniably a medical condition
