Doing the same thing and getting different results happens all the time. In fact the scientific method is basically doing the same thing over and over again with the expectation that, sometimes, you will get different results.

Also if you look at any kinds of books or research on mental illness and its definitions, you will definitely NOT find "doing the same thing and expecting different results." That is not even close to being the "definition."

I mean I know there are lots of things people say all the time that are completel bullshit but this one in particular should be obvious after just a few seconds of thought.

If people said "the definition of desperation is doing the same thing and expecting different results" that would be closer to the truth at least.
