I think one of the most telling things is that I've reached Mt. Bur-Omisace with every single character the exact same level, and that everyone fills a role while at the same time never feeling like I'm stuck with a character. They're swapped out on the fly for characters better for certain situations. Also, the 4x makes grinding go so, so, so quickly and ensures that no one falls behind.

I'm not sure if I'm underleveled overall (everyone is 30 right now) but so far fights have been a little on the easy side unless I'm missing something. Vaan and Basch are still on their first jobs (Shikari and Foebreaker) while Balthier is a White Mage/Machinist and Fran is a Red Battlemage/Archer so they can fit their "canon" roles and also be classes with good synergy. Ashe is a Knight/Bushi(do) which from what I understand makes perfect synergy due to katana's damage being based on physical and magical stats (Ashe being inherently strong in the latter, knights being strong in the former) and Penelo is a Monk/Black Mage.

The story is actually better than I remember, too, mostly because at the speed you move through things it feels like there's less of a gap between important story elements since you're not back-tracking as much thanks to the speed of grinding. The character moments/development are still lacking but I understand the story much better, I think, than 19 year old me who played it when it first came out. Terminology feels a bit less forced than a game like Final Fantasy XIII which fires fal'Cie and l'Cie at you right away to a lot of confusion.

There's a reason why this is my second favorite FF of all time and this is a really damn good remastering of it.

Ugh, I was hoping to buy some more Embroidered Tippets (Double EXP) in Old Archades to speed up the grinding but apparently the merchant no longer sells them.

I kinda rushed the last area and now my A-team (Ashe/Balther/Penelo) is three levels higher than my B-team (Basch/Vaan/Fran).

I made my Fran a Red Battlemage/Archer which seems like a solid enough combo (although she's apparently the slowest Archer but god dammit I want my canon) but it's like I'd rather have a more powerful mage in Penelo and more powerful healer in Balthier.

Vaan is the most useless because I have no idea yet what to make it secondary job, although I might go with Bushi (and thus guarantee not having all classes used) for the sake of having a Yiazmat killer (according to the Job License topic on the board).

I literally never use penelo so she's like level 11 and everyone else is level 18 looool. I'm in the jungle traveling towards mt bur-omishsbsbba. I'm definitely underleveled and need to grind! I have larsa as guest so I can take having someone underleveled while I grind.

The later parts of the game have gotten a little more frustrating than I remember. They really start throwing status effects at you hot and heavy.

Accidentally had a run in with an elemental... instantly died. Was told to move in a team of alive people. So I did. (Team b is shit right now, balthier, ashe, fran). Immediate death...

Can I have a whm wearing heavy armor attacking with a battle axe?

Both jobs are equal, so yes if you give your WHM the appropriate second job, they can wear heavy armor and use axes.
