How do you go about enjoying life and not worrying about money? Something clear and I have in common is that we're both fighting hard to retire early and become financially free. So that is why we focus on money a lot.

I think you just mean having more free time, if you're retiring early you're not gonna have a lot of extra money lying around

I would really be looking into finding work doing something that you actually find interesting or that you care about somehow. I've read that doing fulfilling work ends up being incredibly important to people's happiness with their career. You don't have to immediately quit or anything, but just start reading about stuff is what I'd recommend.

Early retirement is a great goal and it absolutely needs plenty of money to be successfully executed. If that's considered having your life dictated by money, then I'd rather that than have my life dictated by some stupid job until I'm old and whithered.

A regular job is a minimum of 40 hours per week, not including commute or anything. Imagine having to beat a tedious and long RPG every week of your life until you're 65 or older. No thanks.

By finding a balance between enjoying life and saving for tomorrow. Great you retired 5 or even 10 years early to die living a frugal life and wasted your 20s,30s,and 40s along the way.

Rather than focusing on retiring early focus on how to turn your passions into extra income if not your primary source.

Time is infinitely more valuable than money. And you're choosing to throw away time for money.

You've got it backwards. We're not trying to retire 5 or 10 years early. We're trying to retire in our late 20s/early 30s. Extremely early "retirement", meaning we have enough passive income that we can then work for ourselves, pursuing whatever our passions are.

At least that's what I'm trying to do. I don't remember if clear's definition of early retirement means retiring at 50. >_>

I find that most of life's conflicts come from people being overly ambitious or having their expectations about life too high.

Sure, everyone wants to have a career they love, a loving family, and live in a nice city with good weather and go on fun vacations.

That is not reality. You might have a career you tolerate, a mediocre wife and two brats, and live in a city with constantly bad weather and never be able to afford vacation.

This is not a special life experience. This is the average of most people.

Learn to appreciate the connections you have with other people more. Learn to appreciate good food, time off from work, hot showers, and sleeping in on your days off.

that place that specifically says you need to find ways to aggressively cut your spending in order to save so you can retire and continue not to spend much money?

I don't consider that financial freedom, although it is independence from a job.

If my salary never goes up and merely matches inflation the earliest I can retire is 45ish. I need to make more fucking money if I have any dream of retiring in my 30's.

That's to get a NW of $1MM at least.

So your pissing away the prime of your life working mindless desk jobs for an unachievable goal.

The only way you're going to achieve that is by blind luck or creating something revolutionary. Which ideas of which nearly never come from people whose motivation is to do as little work as possible.

Are we doing as little work as possible or are we pissing away our prime by working too much? Make up your mind broseph.

I have a high-paying job and a growing side business. I don't work like crazy lately, either. I enjoy my life and my prime is great so far, if not a bit stressful because of working a demanding job and building a side business at the same time. What would you have me do? Work an easier job and quit my side business so I can watch more movies per week? Spend money on a vacation to Europe?

why would you frame working for yourself as retirement, though? If you're really building a side business you'd think you'd know that is a silly way to put it

Yeah there's absolutely nothing preventing someone from doing that. Especially clear whose parents paid for his college and he followed to Tennessee so he can live with them if his self employed business fails to be profitable.

I never thought this day would come.

But yeah, life's too short. It just sounds like clear might need a new job/career path. Life isn't all about money. At a point in time, it's about what makes you happy. And also who makes you happy as well.

If you want to make more money, get a new job or learn to play the corporate game. There are too many forces holding you back in some companies...as in they rather get that promotion instead of you.

When I was younger, I wasn't satisfied with my part time hourly pay, so I started interviewing around. One company offer more than double my hourly rate, so I went back to my boss and they agreed to double my hourly rate.

You have to know how to talk to managers and when to use leverage.

Get a job you enjoy instead of one you hate

I make less money than a lot of people and won't retire as early but retirement sounds like it sucks from what all my grandparents have said. They just constantly look for work helping out other family members/friends with home improvements.

Retirement is overrated.
