Well, it's telling US citizens "Nope, not happening. Plan your trip elsewhere."

It's a little constraining but when you're talking about North Korea, there's justification.

Because your freedom to travel to certain countries are being taken away?

I don't know. You people are the ones who are harping on "freedom" all day.

It's usually journalists that go there to write a piece about the place.

You need to look at the larger picture. This is about avoiding war.

If you have citizens getting locked up tortured and killed like Otto this poses a real problem for the US government.

Best to limit NK ability to commit such heinous acts and provoke the US government. In time NK will mess up on their own but this move surly lets the world know the US is trying to avoid conflict.

It's a a touchy subject and on that should not be taken lightly.

This was a good decision.

???

I get the impression you misinterpreted me. I'm saying for all the bungles this administration has made, saying North Korea is currently off-limits wouldn't be among them.

Tensions are not good between NK and the US and letting US citizens travel over there at such a heated time might be dangerous (or at least problematic). Being told that you can't go somewhere by your government isn't nice but you have to draw the line sometimes and I think in this instance it's fine.

Agreed.

I see your point people should have the freedom to travel as they wish between open borders legally. But in rare instances such as this it's much larger than your ability to "book a vacation to NK" it's about war which NK has an agenda and is pushing it with great vigor.

It's best to sit back and wait for them to fuck up because they whole world is watching and will have no empathy for NK when they provoke the US.

We're Americans, dammit. We should be allowed to go anywhere we want to -- especially hostile territory!

My heart goes out to people who get wrongfully interrogated and imprisoned, but you know the leaders of nations that are hostile to the US consider it a feather in their cap to say that they have an American in one of their cells. It stinks to have to put it in writing though when it should be common sense to stay away from these places.

Because they still have to pay the US government if they are abroad.
