and a waste of time?

I honestly can't believe people often refer to mobile gaming as the "handheld gaming killer" when nearly all of their games are just freemium low quality repetitive crap or watered down ports of games that came from REAL gaming platforms(console, PC and handheld) along with shitty touch screen controls. At least with Handheld gaming, you have games that are actually worth your bucks due to the amount of effort and budget put into the games by handheld and console game developers compared to mobile game developers. Smartphones and tablets on the other hand, have different main purposes from handheld gaming, which is being a communication device or multimedia device.

People often state how handheld gaming is dead yet the original Nintendo DS up to this day, is still the 2nd best-selling gaming platform of all time(being a very close 2nd to the PS2), which sold 154.02 million worldwide(as of June 30, 2016) compared to the PS2's 155 million units sold(as of March 31st, 2012).

Handheld gaming is still a big thing in Japan because of how people in Japan actually walk and travel more often than Americans on average. It's obvious that the main target of mobile gaming are strictly people who are just very casual gamers.

Mobile gaming is supported by "whales" it's shit and generally just a profit making machine because it's built to scam the most money out of people.

In the end, it comes to personal preference. It'd be a waste of time for me since I'm not a fan of handheld or mobile gaming. But it doesn't bother me that other people are.

I have a feeling people who go, "oh, all the games are crap", haven't seen some of the crazy s*** that comes out.

For the most part I agree with the TC, theres an unimaginable amount of bull**** shovel ware titles on Android, in fact I bet 70% or maybe even 80% of the android market is just terrible shovel ware. I still like playing Minecraft, True skate, Terraria & sometimes angry birds, but other then that, android doesn't really have alot of great games. Android can't even dream of being better then a DS or PSP in my opinion.

That's the problem with android games, they're either utterly ruined by in app purchase or they are just pointless quirky time killers like flappy bird.

I think "Am I the only one who..." questions are trying to evolve into my of an expression then a literal question. I mean it would be virtually impossible for you to be "The only one" with that opinion.

For example, am I the only one who likes pineapple on pizza? (I legitimately do) I bet there are hundreds, probably thousands of people that agree with me. But yet, I still phrased it "am I the only one" its just a figure of speech.

One has a story and progression. The other is a game that requires you to sit and wait to play the next level of the same thing but slightly harder. It's like a NES game except you can't start level 2 without waiting 10mins because you don't have the energy.

Otherwise, the kinds of posts we see using that verbiage generally aren't minority opinions and, even in the case of pineapple pizza, clearly enough people must like it because restaurants put it on menus. Things wind up and stay on menus because people eat them =p

@Zeus Your the 2nd person to tell me that. I tried using the "Quote" button but if I click it, it just reloads the same web page, it doesn't seem to work for me. I use my old android 2.3 Samsung galaxy pocket with the Opera mini browser, somewhere along the line the "Quote" button isn't compatible for me. That's why I copy & paste posts to make my own make shift "Quote". I know its not ideal but its the best I can do...

I've tried to give mobile games a shot but after about 2 weeks I'm bored of em. Or they require the internet so playing them outside my house isn't likely (I keep mobile data off unless I need it).

Usually I just bring my 3DS or Vita.

And there are good mobile games out there that dont adhere to those problems, trying to write off an entire platform based on its shovelware is stupid, go ahead and scan through the steam store right quick.

Of course. I'm not writing off the whole library. Sadly alot is shovel ware. Steam has recently become flooded with the same kind of thing. People will try to make a cheap prof it any way they can.

what annoys me is people (usually female) consider themselves "gamers" because they play mobile/tablet games.

I just watched 1 & wow! I didn't realize Android games could actually be that good... They are still usually ruined by in app purchases & imprecise touch screen controls though. But still, there looks to be a couple of really good games out there.
