Little more than half way through the year so far and it really hasn't seemed near as notable as last year, but figured I'd share some of my favorites and see what everybody else has been listening to (though I'm sure there will be a lot of posters saying they don't listen to new music for whatever reason).

1. Blanck Mass - World Eater
Only album so far this year that has really blown me away, when there was several by this point last year. It's a fantastic electro-industrial album from one of the members of Fuck Buttons. Full of incredible, hypnotic energy and incomparable intensity.

2. Kelly Lee Owens - Kelly Lee Owens
A very soft, ethereal electronic/ambient pop album. It's her debut album and it really shines. Completely immersive and the tracks show a lot of talent and diversity while keeping a steady tone overall. Definitely one I listen to repeatedly.

3. The Caretaker - Everywhere at the End of Time - Stage 2
In a way it is just another example of The Caretaker doing the same thing he always does: Creating ambient music through sampling old turntable music to create an overall melancholic landscape. With this being his second stage of his Everywhere at the end of time project, the music definitely conveys the perspective of dementia creeping in. It's somber to no end, and he seems to take a leave from the typical repetitive nature of his music for something much more beautiful, forcing you into the mindset of a person grasping onto whatever beautiful memories they can before an eternity of nothingness. Probably his best work since his 2011 masterpiece "An Empty Bliss Beyond This World". Really excited to see where this project goes in the next couple years.

4. Slowdive - Slowdive

It's Slowdive's first album in 22 years and they sound like they never left. Kills it by releasing a record that exemplifies everything that made Slowdive one of the most iconic shoegaze artists back in the 90s.

5. Throwing Snow - Embers

Another energetic and intense electronic album, though in a completely different way than World Eater for sure. Very fluid, very diverse, always exciting for one reason or another. The real stand-out track for me though is the second track, which is probably my favorite song of the year.

6. Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me

Last one I am going to write anything about. The songwriting is incredibly personal and delivered with such emotion, its hard to describe it as anything that is nice to listen to simply due to how sad and raw it is. Folk music such as this definitely isn't my forte, especially as I am someone who typically cares very little about lyrics, but this is one of the exceptions as everything here feels incredibly genuine.
