I'm the worst at the barber/ salon. I try to keep it going, but what starts out as a light hearted "how's your day going?" eventually turns into the awkward silence interrupted by the sounds of scissor blades crossing.
It's not necessarily that I don't want to talk to people, I just honestly see the person cutting my hair as a tool for getting my haircut and nothing else. Although being able to small talk is a very valuable tool that can lead to opportunities. Like in an RPG tavern.

There's nothing wrong with just being polite to people.

I'm the same as him. I do it like 100 times a day at work, I'll do it in public too just to be polite.

It bores the hell out of me though and I feel the same way as my boss that it's wasted conversation when you could discuss something more in-depth/interesting.

I fully recognize that we're the minority though so I still partake in it.

I still don't get what you mean.

Like I can hold a conversation fine my problem is what I care about talking about outside of gaming most normal people don't care about, so it just become awkward at that point

It doesn't come naturally to them. It's part of why they are nerds. When you have trouble socializing it guides you more towards solitary and inward interests, and vice versa in a self-feeding loop.

Some nerds have disdain for socializing as a way to cope with the fact that they can't have what they desire, but that doesn't represent most.

You don't inherently give off that vibe just because you view small talk unfavorably.

It's absolutely possible to partake in it and not enjoy it.

I don't like small talk. I can 'fake' it, as in I do the small talk but the entire time I'm trying to find an opportunity to get out of it. it's not enjoyable to me at all unless it's with friends/etc. I don't think there's a choice in whether you like it or not, just how you approach it
