It was dumb that there was actual science/magic bs in it tho.

Piper Perabo needs more work. Also how did jackman just assume the positron of a wealthy lord after dying?

Also why did Christian Bale send Jackman to Tesla, the only guy who could actually build a badass magic trick. He could have sent him on a wild goose chase to nepal.

Just watched it for the first time, the machine that Tesla built is a pretty lazy plot twist, which is a shame because the show was pretty good up until that point.

I missed the first 20 minutes or so (I came home and my wife was watching it one day) but it was a solid film.

I agree. It also seemed kinda out of place in what was otherwise a really sweet movie of magician one-upmanship.

Nolan's only good film, though the magic stuff was kind of dumb.

The first question you asked is he was always the lord, he pretended to be a pouper so he could be a magician.

I agree with this part too but only partially. I like the little nod to Tesla having big ideas while Edison shut him down but I agree it was unneeded. In its defense though, it fits the theme perfectly.

Bale was dedicated and truly appreciated the work magicians put in to their craft. Hence he /they was always a "blue collar" worker and portrayed that perfectly with his trick. All about dedication.

Jackman is revealed to be a lord. He likely hasn't had to actually work hard for anything in his life. It explains why he couldn't figure out the old mans trick with the fishbowl and it couldn't be portrayed in any better way than spending an enormous amount of money on "magic" or technology if you believe any of Teslas crazier patents would have actually been viable. Hence the dues ex machina was all about cutting corners or taking the quickest and easiest way.
