I was wondering this as well. Is it a choice to not do the accent so Franco's performance doesn't fall into mimicry territory? Like getting the essence of Wiseau without trying to be a caricature of him?

Or is the implication that the accent is bullshit and has become a character played up by Wiseau because that's how he acted in The Room? Cause Franco kinda does it at the end.

I think in casual conversation the accent is less noticeable

In the Disaster Artist Tommy is mentioned to mumble quite a bit, so I think in Franco's portrayal the accent just kind of drops when he's not projecting.

He allegedly demanded to have a cameo in the film, and it was in his contract as part of the deal for them to get the film rights. James Franco said it was the most weird experience he's ever had when they filmed his cameo scene lol.
