Or will be able to? When you've accomplished everything and have no more ambition. What then? Sit around and wait to die of old age?

If you find yourself in that situation, you have either set extremely low targets or have no imagination whatsoever.

I will have written 2 books by the end of this year. FoH with "no imagination". My imagination is the precise reason I feel I've done all I want to. I've sat and thought about everything in life I can realistically obtain or accomplish and now I'm drawing a blank.

“Leave something to wish for, so as not to be miserable from very happiness. The body must respire and the soul aspire. If one possessed all, all would be disillusion and discontent. Even in knowledge there should always be something left to know in order to arouse curiosity and excite hope. Surfeits of happiness are fatal.” - Baltasar Gracián

I've been in a similar position to you. One possible answer is accepting that first hand experience can be more valuable than second hand experience. Developing intellectual pursuits will always be satisfying, but until you comprehensively apply that wisdom to your own life and attempt if not accomplish something 'unrealistic' you may always be unsatisfied. Just an idea.

All of my pursuits in life have been either artistic or athletic. I honestly never cared about much else that wasn't mindless entertainment (movies, games, tv).

I've tried every sport I want to and gone about as far in each as I could.

I wanted to write a book, now I've written 2

I wanted to be a singer, and I did 13 musicals and starred in 4. I made my voice the best it could get.

Have been with 5 women, have no urge to get married or have kids.

Wanted to train martial arts for real and not at a McDojo. Got my blue belt in BJJ from a former UFC fighter a few months ago. I don't think I'll make it to purple, kind of feel like I'm at my full potential with that

I'm not a thrill seeker so no interest in typical bucket list stuff like skydiving or bungee jumping or anything.

I don't care about travelling, so no ambition to do that.

I don't have the time or energy for friends

I love my dogs more than anything, but they won't be
around forever.

Everything else is just unrealistic (famous athlete or artist).

Be a volunteer firefighter or EMT (specially if you're not using it for money) is probably one of the most fulfilling things you can do imo

Yup, it's being whiny to not be interested in travelling or simple friendships. People should just be interested in what everyone else is.

Like? I don't have any drive to be an EMT or firefighter. Good suggestions, but I'm not going to pretend something interests me when it doesn't. Sometimes I like to ponder in the form of a question, and I'm not always looking for an answer. Like someone asking "why?" in frustration when it starts to rain. You know why it's raining, but you don't explain the science behind rain because you know they know, they're just expressing their chagrin that it is indeed raining and they are not pleased.

Yeah, I'm in this boat. Of course there are many things that I could still do, but nothing that truly interests me (IE: I've about crossed off everything I can realistically cross off my "bucket list.")

I can still travel and shit, but even that loses its charm after a while.

have you really done everything you wanted to do? seems like everyone else is struggling with the opposite problem.

The reason I don't volunteer at animal shelters is they make me sad to a point where it legitimately has adverse effects on my mental health.

I'm almost irrationally fond of dogs to the point that seeing any in pain or suffering can send me into a deep depression, sometimes manic.

I'm not making an excuse I'm saying I'm not mentally fit to be in that line of work.

animal shelters

man i said rescues!

big difference. rescues typically organize a process of people driving large trucks full of dogs saved from kill shelters up from the south to central points where fosters pick them up and bring them to live in their homes temporarily, and then run events where those dogs are brought to public places to be connected to families who want to adopt them permanently.
