For me, any game that I feel is "collectible" (like my favorite franchises so I can have the whole series physically) or any game that may become a classic I might want to play in 15 years I buy physical.

Despite preferring digital in every other way, I don't fully trust that my digital titles will remain available to me that far into the future. Too many things could go wrong, like being locked out of my account for some reason (a longtime friend had this happen and lost his XBL account of like 8 years; had to make a new one because of email bullshittery), or the servers could be taken down and you wouldn't be able to redownload a game if you ever deleted it to clear up space. Plus IIRC most digital distribution services don't technically let you "own" the game if you read the fine print. You're merely paying to use their services which they can terminate at any time.

Digital is totally fine and the downsides are largely negligible, but for certain games I'm willing to sacrifice some convenience for the sake of security.

If I am able to get a game physically, I will. Otherwise, digital all the way.

If it's a series I love or I think I'll love, I go physical. Anything else, digital.

Or if it's drastically cheaper as digital, I'll do that almost every time.

i try to avoid buying digital ps4 games though since that harddrive is so small
