I posted this on the Wii U board but I'm posting it again here since I want a few more eyes on this.

Is it better to just trade in my Wii at gamestop or should I sell it on amazon or ebay? It's the deluxe black one with the MotionPlus controller.

It's in pretty pristine condition. Other than some dust, there's no wear or scratch marks on it.

If I trade it in at gamestop, I'll only get at most $30 for it. However, I don't see any listings like this on amazon or ebay so I don't know how much it's really worth.

And while on that subject, where IS the best place to get a Wii U? Gamestop is having a sale right now where a refurb 32GB is only around $200. Other places have refurbs at around $270. That being said, I'm kinda hesitant after reading a couple of stories about gamestop's refurbs being shoddy. Should I go for it?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

You can't find a single listing for a Wii on Amazon or eBay? That seems odd.

I can't really answer you. Either you can get more than $30 or you can't. I would have to imagine you can do better than $30 selling online. Just remember to factor in shipping and packaging before you get too excited about the prospect of making more. It's more attractive to offer free shipping, but if you have the buyer pay shipping then you aren't taking as big of a risk and you know what you're getting. I haven't sold on Amazon but with eBay I know there is a 10% final value fee, so keep that in mind too.

I found plenty of Wiis but none of them were the deluxe black edition like the one I have. (Or maybe there were but they were buried under a lot of pages)

And thanks for the heads up about the shipping. I forgot to take that into account.

Try Craigslist and open with $75 but put "price negotiable" and let yourself go down to $50.

You're not going to get much more than $50, regardless of its condition or the fact that it's a black one.

Through Craigslist, you save on shipping too if you find someone who you can meet not far away.

Pretty sure the black ones are worth less (assuming he's talking about the ones that aren't GC-compatible)

Oh yeah if that's the case then just dump it at GameStop

Pretty sure that mine is GC compatible. At least, I think it is, since whenever I boot up a game, it shows that screen with the wii disc and gc disc.

Honestly, the Wii is worthless now. You're better off just giving it to a needy family and earning that karma.

You're "pretty sure"? Why don't you just check if it has GC controller ports?

I was planning on putting the money towards getting the Wii U. Maybe enough to get the Pro Controller if I'm lucky.

Somebody on the Wii U board suggested that I buy the Wii U through the nintendo ebay store, and it looks like I might just do that.

$200 for a fully refurbished (by Nintendo) 32GB system that also comes with Nintendoland AND a $25 ebay gift card. That's probably the best deal out there.

Craigslist for both buying a Wii U and selling your Wii. I got a Wii U a few months after launch along with a boatload of Wii/Wii U games along with a Pro controller for like $300. Also, you could probably get $30 in cash for your Wii instead of the store credit this way. I just checked my local craigslist and found a deal like this right away. $250 for at least $500 worth of Wii U stuff.

You know what I just thought of? You probably should hold off on selling the Wii until you get the Wii U, unless you have nothing on the Wii anyway. You can transfer all your save data and digital games from the Wii to the Wii U with an SD card. It might be possible to put that stuff on the SD card from the Wii first, but I don't think so. It's been a while since I've done it, but I remember the steps being something like:

Initiate transfer on Wii U > Insert SD Card into Wii U > Insert SD Card into Wii > Transfer data > Insert SD Card into Wii U and complete transfer

The Wii U is a bad investment right now, honestly. It bombed and lacks software, but the value has yet to seriously decline because the Switch is still pretty new and many haven't upgraded yet for one reason or another. Most of the games aren't going to be difficult to track down a year or so from now when the bottom completely falls out. If you need a new Nintendo device, you're better off going with a 3DS than any of the console options, and this from somebody who doesn't really like handhelds.

GameStop is fundimentaly a pawn shop. Their interest is in aquiring as much product as they can as cheaply as they can and selling it at massive markup. Refurbished only means that some register jocky turned it on once then repachaged it.

I already bought and placed an order. :/

I mean, I could cancel it and wait a few months, but how long do you think it'll be before it gets a significant price drop?

As far as I know, it took a relatively long time for it to drop down from nearly $400 for the deluxe set down to $200.

I think Amazon requires you to have a seller account, which is about $40 a month. Heard ebay tends to have some buyer-seller complications. And lol craigslist.

$30 at GS is more than I'd thought you'd get.

Last I sold something on Amazon it was free (minus the fees subtracted from the transactions).

This was a year and a half ago.

No games

Wii U owners already have the one game on Switch that's worth getting.

No point in "Switching" until the better games come out.
