Well I wouldn't say everything, but arcades sure have.

The entire arcade culture might as well have died in the 90s

90's kids and previous generations are the only generations that will remember the golden age of arcades.

But now we have PSN, Xbox Live, Steam, ect. Video games are significantly more mainstream and AAA titles are on the same tier as blockbuster movies. This is literally best greatest time for video games.

I miss the arcade culture though:
Go to an arcade, find a fighting game (they were the ones with lines in the day), drop your customized quarter in line with the other quarters to SAVE YOUR SPOT IN LINE. Come back later when you expect your turn would have been ready.

Proceed to hopefully beat whoever is running the machine, play until you get your ass handed to you by someone else, repeat.

Everyone was friendly, people actually TALKED to each other, it was great.

People still do that. Plus a lot of places are opening up where its just a big room full of TVs and Consoles for people to play. Our local mall has like 5 stores and we got one of those...you just pay by the hour and go in to play games with people....its like an arcade but better.

Well MN certainly doesn't have these mythical places.

I mean you can go to gaming events that are setup like that, but I am not aware of an public facilities that offer this stuff in Minnesota at least.

We have places like Dave & Buster's but it's not even close.

Most young people now are repulsed by the idea of paying to temporarily play a game, and not having anything to show for it afterwards. It's a lost concept.

World should have permanently stuck in the 90's tbh.

Imagine if time froze in 1998.

I like a lot of stuff coming from other years now, but I do miss some of the things unique to earlier generations.

Like you know trusting others, not be afraid everyone is out to do you or your kid harm, and arcades dammit I REALLY miss 90's arcades...

I need to find one of the console gaming places that you pay hourly in MN, that sounds at least similar to what I miss. It won't have the same feel but it may scratch that itch.

extremists on both sides are much louder, antifa, blm, feminist (the ones that just hate men), everyone thinks you are out to harm them in some way, social gaming now consists of almost entirely insults when strangers are involved, DLC was not a good thing because it led to unfinished games being released and content being held back for DLC. I don't think the country has been more divided since the civil war, etc...

I'm not saying we should be stuck in the 90's either, but everything certainly hasn't gotten "better" since then.

I'm too young to remember the 90s but the old family 90s movies had that corny, feel good vibes to them which makes me feel like everybody became bitter somewhere after the mid 2000s. That said I don't care for the 90s as I have no memories of them.

You can still dress up like you're from the 90's if you think it looks good.

Movies are subjective. There was a lot of crap back then. Titanic dominated for like a year for a reason.

I'd say that's more of an 80's things.

But I guess they still do movies like that now. They just suck. Have you seen the new Little Rascals? Blurgh. But the Pixar and Disney kids movies of today are pretty damn good. But yeah those live action kids movies seem to have died off.

I see kids doing it now. I was reading the comment section for some Rihanna song back in 2010. Just a bunch of people saying stuff like "This was the good ol' days when music like this was still great. Then it died in 2012."

It's hilarious because if you look at any old songs from a band like, say Sum41, you'll find a bunch of comments about how this is real music and everything else nowadays suck. But I recall pretty vivildy bands like Sum41 in the early 2000s we're almost Justin Bieber levels of infamous (In that they had a large following but there was also a large vocal minority that expressed dislike for them mostly due to their popularity).

It's funny how much time can change people's prespective on things.
