is PRK recovery supposed to be painful? they had me sleep the whole day after my surgery and that was it

How long ago did you get it done?

I'm considering it. Also do you happen to know the statistical probability of complications?

I know mine hurt alot for the week as the biggest recovery happened. After that I took steroid drops for 6 months. Some people take the drops for only a month or 2 though depending on the eyesight before. Other people that had prk around the same time said the worst it felt while they recovered was like you had an eyelash in your eye.

For recover the first week is your eyes healing. That's the potentially painful portion. For the next couple of months your night vision can be pretty bad so driving can suck at night. Your eyes are also more sensitive to light so sunglasses are recommended. As for the surgery mine was done by a computer mostly so if you fidget or move your eye the Lazer turns off in a microsecond. Your in and out of the surgery in under 8 minutes.

Edit: you might be dissapointed right after the surgery since your vision may not be 20/20 and I had foggy vision for a while. It takes time to reset your vision.

Trying is the first step towards failure, so just dont give it a shot and you cant dissapoint.

I can't remember the exact statistics but its really low. The worse that can happen is the dry eye thing or the halo effect.

And why is PRK pushed over Lasik?

I've read that you need to have a consistent prescription before you can get it done. Last time I went to get my eyes checked was months ago, but the gap between then and my visit before that was about 9 years. So I wouldn't have a consistent prescription yet.

And there's always the cost possibly being an issue.

I really want to get it done though. I hate wearing glasses so much.

Don't you still have to push the shades up your runny nose, though?

I don't have $5000 to drop on an unnecessary procedure.

I broke my glasses like 3 years ago and still haven't even got those fixed. It's whatever. My vision is good enough to get by without it. If it gets worse then I would consider Lasik.

I'm paranoid that it'll go wrong somehow

I had a discussion with my optometrists about it once. I don't even like the glaucoma check, and mine is done without the air, so blades and shit near my eye is a big nope. Plus, he said he has one patient who had it go wrong, so it's like seeing through crumpled cellophane.

Yeah, until you turn 40 and your vision nose dives.

1. It's expensive as fuck and my vision insurance only cuts 15% off the cost
2. I saw a video of how it's done and it freaked me the fuck out.
