What's it like living off unemployment?

I don't believe you can get unemployment for violating workplace policy. So things like creating a hostile work environment or harassment would disqualify you from unemployment benefits.

I believe you have to lose your job based on performance or some instances of lack of attendance could apply. Stuff like theft, assault, and harassment would not entitle you to unemployment.

Though I do not claim to be any expert on the matter.

I was on unemployment once. It lasted about 4 months. I worked at a sandwich shop and corporate decided to close our store down with less than a week notice to its employees so I qualified since I lost my job through no fault of my own. I worked maybe 15-20 hours a week there as I was also going to school. I only qualified for like $80/week so it was barely anything. Basically just enough to scrape by while I focused on school.

I got fired when I took time off going to a license unrelated to my work. They gave me time off then decided to just fire me instead like 4 days before I would go on the break.

I got severance plus all my accrued vacation so I have like an extra $5K on top of my usual savings. Now I get $430 a week to go to the gym and relax around my apartment through like October.

It's awesome for about a month or two.

Then you start going into a depression phase on the 3rd month.

After about 4 to 5 months in, you start not giving a **** about anything and start lazing around 24/7.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal tbh. It just gets a bit depressing to have so much free time at some point though. As long as you can keep yourself real busy it can be pretty good.

Being unemployed is pretty fun until you either a)run out of money or b) it gets old. Basically every day is Wednesday except the weekend when more people are around.

When it's gets old it gets REALLY old to have that much free time.

I was on for 7 months. Got 315 a week after taxes, parking, etc while working 40 hours a week. Minus 25 a week for gas to even get to work and back (gas was like 3.50 a gallon back then and car got 13 mpg). Was getting 257 a week on unemployment to do whatever I wanted with all my free time. I wasn't mad at that trade off.
