Bayonetta is cancer in Sm4sh, her design is really anti-fun for the person fighting her, it approaches Rosalina levels of frustrating.

Sm4sh is just less fun than Melee tbh. Most of the time, Melee is a game where you are rewarded for aggression (assuming you are a skilled player). Air dodges are weak and grabs are an offensive tool because if you sit around shielding you're gonna get fucked. Not so in Sm4sh. There are characters who are designed to run in and actually fight, sure, but the way the game is made, aggression is much more easily punished. Approaches from the air against a grounded opponent are probably going to get you fucked up (again there are always exceptional characters but this is as a general rule). Landing is a hassle and danger in sm4sh so unless your character has strong aerial movement skills and low aerial cooldown, it's not really an option. Look at the Sm4sh tier list and notice that characters with strong aerials and specials that give them spacing after connecting are very high, while characters who struggle in the air tend to be very low. There are other factors obviously, but air superiority is a big one.

Then you have the issue of half of all down-throws being that character's easy-bake combo starter, and how easy it is for many characters to shield one attack and grab for a 20-30% rebuttal. Again this limits aggression in the game. Air importance and ezbake grab is why Little Mac is one of the worst characters in the game despite having super armor on at least six fast and powerful attacks, a frame-1 jab, good tilts, and a charge-up super attack.

There's also general pacing of the game. Because of how blast zones are in this, the comp standard is literally 2stock.

It's because there are fewer infinites and guarantees in Sm4sh. Compared to melee where characters without great guarantee kills are pretty much never played, Sm4sh, people with really good basics can shine on low-mid tier chars, and it's also why long time pros just end up sticking to whatever they started their Sm4sh career with. Combos are also very much possible in Sm4sh but none of them are super broken. They actually demand a lot more from players than the muscle memory strings of inputs in Melee.

The only reason why Melee is played with 4-5 stocks is because the game's filled with too many broken stuff. Fox grab up throw and up air isn't exactly a brain teaser. Instead of judging why Sm4sh is played with 2 stocks, one should really ask why Melee requires 5 stocks to create decent matches

Stuff like uthrow uair exists but wwaaaay more is happening in a match than stuff like that. Melee has 4stock because it's not a traditional fighter, it's platform- and position-heavy and edgeguarding is powerful and important (not that edgeguarding being less effective in Sm4sh and especially Brawl is a large contributer to having less stocks). Even Brawl is played with 3 stocks, though. Sm4sh is slow as fuck and it's boring. Extended blast zones wouldn't be as bad if the core gameplay was so much more defensive than Melee, but it is, so the issue is just compounded.

yeah i'm sure doing 3 uairs or w/e shit happens in a slow ass game like smash 4 is more demanding than melee combos that require precise and quick inputs and reactions.

and melee is played with 4 stocks (not 5). its what the community decided was the sweetspot. people don't ask why smash 4 is played with 2 stocks. they know its played that way because any more stocks would make the games end up taking too long because of how slow paced the game is.
