Are we going to see a similarly impassioned defence of property rights and free speech when an ISIS flag (the Black Banner, rayat as-sawda) gets torn down if some sociopathic cretin chooses to display one on their property? If the law comes down hard on whoever illegally removes it, are we going to read topic titles like "SJW 'justice' punishes hero who rips down Islamic State flag"? I mean, let's just be consistent in our approach, people.

I've seen people with people Bernie Sanders stickers and I've never pulled them off their car. One even parked in my parking space; I could have had him towed or ticketed but I let it go.

Fair enough, but do you feel you could show the same measure of forbearance if you spotted one with an ISIS sticker (assuming you felt pretty sure that's what it was)?

I still wouldn't deface/steal their property. I would have called and had their car ticketed or towed though.

I'm not defending the actions of the guy but I feel like a few people here are still getting a bit carried away with how much damage they think was done here. He ripped a sticker off the metal part of what looks like a work truck. Not like he kicked in the guy's windows or anything. Total damage = $3-ish.

To be honest, I think a more serious matter is that the guy gets out of a moving vehicle and starts running along a busy highway. If he trips and falls, and vehicles brake or swerve to try to avoid him, there's scope for a real accident. Yeah, the traffic's pretty slow moving at that point, but I still don't think it's an acceptable risk.

You're being super dramatic. This is basically like when one of your co workers steals your sandwich from the fridge at work. That's still technically "theft". But dude...it's a fucking sandwich. That's worthy of a few words at the next meeting, not an indictment in front of a grand jury.

That was never my argument. I'm just saying that people are getting super dramatic over something that's not really a big thing.

On Sunday I witnessed a 9 year old try to steal a packet of pringles from the tennis club candy shop. I didn't let it go. I told his mother and he got a big telling off, and had to apologise and was grounded. What didn't happen is me reporting it to the police and having the matter handled by a jury and the legal system. I didn't go on a rampage on the internet about it being a juvenile theft from a licensed premises either.

My only point is like...this entire thing is pretty dumb.

Those are two completely different scenarios. Lots of people are getting sick of this "They're Nazis/racists so it's okay to punch them/vandalize their property/etc." crap. You saw that attitude right in this very topic. And the guy was an adult. It's not really comparable to one off of a child shoplifting a pack of chips (which no one would condone).

Right. I never meant to imply that they were similar in severity. Only similar in the sense that people are getting sick of seeing these sorts of things condoned.

Does that make it right? I never said hasn't been around for a long time or that it doesn't exist anymore. When I say it is on the wrong side of history, I'm saying that slavery is never looked back on favorably. Do you think someday someone will look back at the human trafficking going on today and think, "well, it was a product of the times. I guess it wasn't so bad."
