a : extortion or coercion by threats especially of public exposure or criminal prosecution

When there is a legal definition it takes precedence. Dictionary means nothing in this instance.

So you admit what CNN did wasn't a crime.

Doesn't have to be a crime to be shitty disgusting imoorql thing to do. It's a horrible precedent for the news media.

So CNN is wrong for revealing what a person actually did?

So a news organization is wrong for stating a fact?

Facts can be immoral. Let's say they had the identity of a undercover cop infiltrating a dangerous gang that has committed many murders. They expose him and he gets murdered. Obviously wrong and potentially criminal.

The point is they are going after a guy for posting a silly gif about them. It's petty and disproportionate. Also the whole holding a metaphorical gun thing tohis head. I would be angry but less so if they outright exposed him but now he has to tread carefully in what he says because CNN has leverage over him. The political divide is absurdly polarized. This man is going to suffer harassment if they out him.

It's also a dangerous precedent and raises the question...is CNN silencing others by similar means? Media is all about information and freedom of speech. It's disgusting for it to silence speech like this.

Can't believe people are defending CNN from this garbage. This allows them to do even worse stuff in the future.

That is quite different from this and you know it.

That situation is a company you actually have a relationship with. This situation is a massive media outlet hunting down a person for a silly internet gif and threatening to expose him because they have skin less thick than graphene and the morality of a toddler.

Valid point. I appreciate those who know you can entertain a thought and not accept it.

Of course they are censoring you, but it's censorship that you willingly acknowledge and engage in actively by working for them.

I mean, for the most part it's not about defending but combating the waves of hyperbole and melodrama coming from the alt-right. If you've noticed, they've turned the poster into a kid to make him more sympathetic.
