I've heard many stories of old video game music producers jacking parts of other people's music. I was just wondering if that happened here or if they just have the same beat by coincidence. It is a rather standardish beat. Still when I hear one it always reminds me of the other.

Oh wow, yeah that's definitely possible. There's another track from that game, Under Logic, that borrows from the Shamen song Ebenezer Goode.

Yeah I can definitely hear that as well. I always find these little "easter eggs" interesting to find.

Well Streets of Rage borrows heavily from Streets of Fire, so not like they're above borrowing ideas.

I play drums and have also used my fair share of electronic drum machines. The beat itself is very common and would been included in any half-decent drum machine, which is often what people jam to when they're writing new music. So the fact they're the same doesn't really mean anything.

The backing chords are similar but are also pretty typical of that kind of music. I mean we're not talking about a complex arrangement. It's just two chords. The same exact arrangement is in tons of other game music, too. The melodies played over the top are totally different.

Yeah I knew the melodies were different but everything else sounded so similar. It isn't very complex though but the timing of release is also funny. "Sadeness" came out in 1990 and the music was done in 1991. So it was out there right then as well.

This. Fairly common for late '80s, early '90s music that used drum machines.
