Disclaimer: This isn't a woe is me topic but I say a depressing thing or two or three. Nothing other people haven't experienced though.

I've kinda gone downhill the last couple years. I've always been a bit lonely, but things really got bad when this woman I loved died a couple of years ago. Thinfs haven't been the same since. It's a long story and I won't get into it, but since then I've just kinda become stagnant in life, afraid to move forward. I'm 27 and work 4 days a week. I don't make a ton of money but it's enough. When I'm at work though I can't wait to get home and just put my headsets on and watch YouTube for hours until it's time for bed.

Added to that is that my small but solid group of friends stay in touch through games like Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm but don't hardly hang out in person anymore. They're all married so movies and vacations and eating out are done with their wives and families.

I've sort of just lost motivation to move forward. I'm at like 245 pounds now and need to get healthy. I'd also like to focus on helping people more. This will be a big step forward for me. But as soon as the day's work is done any thoughts I had to improve myself as a person go out the window and I'm back at home staring at a screen. What do you guys do to get motivated? Thank you

Easy, discipline

You know exactly what you need to change (and i agree that your willingness to get healthy and help people are great things to do)

I would suggest starting off small. Luckily you can easily/quickly see results of your caring for people.

By taking care of myself and setting a routine. I recognize the things that will make me feel bad and avoid them, and I got into a routine where I do something every day. I also have designated hours where I don't make myself do anything.

yeah it's about doing things. It doesn't matter as long as your mind is in motion, even if ll you do for the day sometimes is cleaning out your basement or whatever, it's always better than just sitting around in nothingness. It's sometimes terribly hard to maintain

Discipline, but like...how? I guess the moral is just do it, eh? One person gave me a piece of advice many years ago about important things and he said "There's no special secret. Ya just do it." Thank you for taking the time to read and respond so far

Use YouTube or whatever else you like as a reward when you are done making positive steps with your life (like working out or helping others)

Pretty much.

Just do it!!

It also helps to have little and tiny goals; kinda like checkpoints towards your bigger goals to make sure you're on track.

Also, people tend to become demotivated when they don't see monumental results in their efforts. But that's false you see. You must celebrate each achievement; no matter how miniscule or seemingly insignificant. Every victory is well-fought for. And you'll see your progress! And that will motivate you to further continue your endeavour.

:))

I just make something a bet or a challenge then tell everybody so it's embarrassing if I flake out. If you're not happy with weighing 245lbs, for instance, just make your food an enemy and will yourself to cut out a meal and only eat with certain hours.

If you're trying to get in shape I'd suggest the RIPT90 program. It's super affordable and all you need is a set of dumbbells and a pull up bar. The coach is a very good motivator and encourages you to work your way up to doing the full work out and ease into it depending on your fitness level.

Pretty much what everyone said, you just do it.
If there's a goal out there and you want it, just go get it, you know?

This may sound weird but for me at least, I like imagining how good and complete I feel after completing the goal, and other times I just like tp boast saying I'm the greatest. A few months ago I weighed just about the same weight as you and I couldn't stand it, I couldn't stand being out of shape and people not being able to physically depend on me so I just took the steps and started working out. I wanted it, each day I kept feeling bad about how I sat around doing essentially nothing with a job I wasn't happy with, I just couldn't stand it anymore.

Idk if this helps or not, this is just me :P
