I'm new to all this. My vision at phone/book/paper-reading distance is slightly better without any eyewear. Did I get a wrong prescription or is this just the trade-off that's to be expected? My prescription is rather light, too.

I've been wearing glasses since childhood (30 now) and my vision keeps getting worse and prescription keeps increasing. Physicians lie when they say glasses are supposed to increase your vision.

Your vision was already on a downward enough path for you to need glasses. What makes you think that process would stop?

Glasses/contacts are designed to give you 20/20 vision, meaning if you are far sighted, you can see things farther away better without your glasses.

Yeah, I asked my eye doctor about this. She said it's just how glasses work and that it's actually beneficial to not use your glasses for close work if you're nearsighted.

If you're nearsighted you have better vision at close range than a normal person. If you're far sighted you have better vision at further range. You basically put all of your skill points into one or the other. Normal folks have more evenly distributed skill points.
Glasses/contacts evenly distribute your points.
