P3 is supposed to be the dark one but I didn't get depressed when I played it. But I do get a huge melancholic vibe when exploring the town of inaba in p4 golden. I remember this game, at least vanilla version, as extremely lighthearted and comedic with a Scooby gang type vibe.

That's because you were buying into the internet hype and memes. Truth is, Persona 4 is darker than 3 in a lot of ways. It's just way more subtle and subversive. Persona 3 has more straight forward threats and situations. Persona 4... nothing is as it seems on the surface. Life is like that too... the more you look into certain things, the more you realize you did not truly understand what you were viewing at face value. It's more realistic in that way to me.

I originally liked small rural backwater town inaba 8 years ago, but now I find it kind of not that great. Think I might prefer busy city theme of persona 3.

Persona 4 isn't dark.

In persona 3, everyone acts more like friendly strangers towards each other, and have completely different interests in life. There's really no way for them to become real friends. You are more like a member of a secret organization than anything else in the game.

More about p3 the threat is more terrifying, and you are even said that the enemy can't be beaten,
in so convincing way that i honestly thought that the end of the world is the good ending because you get your memory erased of the upcoming situation. There is more dramatic stuff happening without too much softening those afterwise.

In persona 4 you get actual friends, who acts like actual friends. The music is more happier, it has more mundane fanservice moments, and the actual killer is just a man. In the end before mc uses his super move to take down the real villain your friends even protect you from the blows by throwing their own bodies to cover you.

The games have a sort of synergy. Persona 3 works best actually in contrast to Persona 4, I think. I started Persona 3... got bored in April... started playing Persona 4 and finished it twice then I understood the mechanics enough to properly enjoy Persona 3's dungeons. Persona 3 is no fun to figure out while you're playing. Persona 4 is. I feel like people would appreciate these games even more when they consider that they are bookends to each other. P4 Arena explores this concept a bit.

I just bought a damn vita for this game, and am slightly having slight buyer's remorse slightly.

Probably could have just gotten the Vita TV for around $50
