I'd bet that's the lowest number for that stat on this board.
There are several more that I have gotten rather far in, but never beat.

Also, the first RPG I ever owned was Septerra Core.
This was not the game I beat BTW

I bet there are a few people here who have you beat at zero. JRPGs ain't for everybody.

time to start Xenoblade

GotY 2010,2011,2012

Wouldn't I need to start with Xenogears?

no Xenogears and Xenosaga and Xenoblade are all separate series

they all just have the same director

Xenoblade's totally separate from Xenogears. Same writer/director and about 40% the same team but it's completely unrelated aside from a few lingering themes and such. Different cast, different world, different universe.

i've certainly completed more than that, but i don't think i've ever been perfectly happy about it

when the story of a game is interesting i don't particularly appreciate the hours and hours of combat getting in the way of said story

most recently i think i started hitting the wall about 40 hours into persona 5, but i chugged through and made it to the end in unhealthy fashion. i love them for the concepts and characters, but persona games can be such a slog.

i think some square games have been the exception. ff6, ff7, ff10, and chrono trigger were enjoyable from start to finish (mostly because the combat was easy and quick), although i definitely abused the 'speed up' and save state features of an emulator for 6

for others i've teamed up with a sibling or friend to complete. when one loses interest, the other picks it back up

but then again, maybe i'm weird. i distinctly remember getting tired of the combat in every game of the mass effect trilogy and just wishing i could skip combat as best i could. it's pretty decent motivation to optimize my character, at least

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

Yeah, that is my problem.
I have noticed that I burn out on single player games usually at around 20 hours and RPGs tend to be longer then that.

I'm the opposite, the only WRPG I've ever finished is Nethack unless I'm forgetting something.

Does Zelda count as a WRPG?

and yeah. i absolutely love long, immersive RPGs, but i always hit that wall

it's almost like i truly feel like the character in the game. the hero doesn't love slaying enemies. they just want everything to be okay in the world. enemies are obstacles, not sources of enjoyment

well, most heroes. i'm sure kratos and some others love the carnage

i think this is the main reason i play games rather than watch playthroughs on youtube. the experience is different when you are viscerally empathizing with the trials of the hero. even witcher 3, which i loved, was tedious for long stretches, but i still felt rewarded at the end

long games are a strange hybrid of work, relief and enjoyment

I don't consider Zelda to be a WRPG. But people definitely have very different opinions on classification for WRPG/JRPG/non-RPG...

Yep. I've never been able to watch playthroughs. Just can't do it. This is a big factor as to why.

Oh for sure. These discussions can sometimes get rather heated, too, silly enough.

that is a good question. i'm guessing it was the in-engine RPG bundled with RPG maker on ps1

I've done Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, FF7, FF9, Wild Arms, Dragon Quest 1, Mario & Luigi, Costume Quest (it counts!), and at least six Pokemon games.

More than I would have guessed!

Nope, but I DO own that game!

I have a confession, I completely forgot that Pokemon is an RPG as it seemed more like a way of life in late 98/early 99. I beat Pokemon Blue as well and it was my first RPG too. This topic is based all on a lie. noooooooo.
