The world, characters, and quests of Oblivion are much better than Skyrim's, but everything else about Oblivion (levelling, cities locked behind loading screens, how EVERYHING LOOKS AWFUL, the horrid magic physics for ranged casting, etc etc etc) gives Skyrim the edge.

This is mostly correct, though remember Skyrim's cities were and still are closed. Obviously Skyrim was more aesthetically beautiful, but its quest content was sorely lacking when compared to Oblivion's, in quality if not volume. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Doe posted...cities locked behind loading screens I think you misread Skyrim does have some bigger areas behind loading screens but other places are actually out in the open. I guess I didn't express myself well. What I hate about Oblivion is that EVERY SINGLE CITY (on the map) has those fucking GIANT WALLS all around them. I believe it's due to engine limitation (for example it happens in Fallout 3 too despite the point of the game being to be empty) but still. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I guess I didn't express myself well. What I hate about Oblivion is that EVERY SINGLE CITY (on the map) has those f***ing GIANT WALLS all around them I think I know what you mean. Even if the cities like Whiterun, Solitude etc having loading screens, there's a fair chunk of city outside the wall. And you have cities like Morthal, Falkreath etc. that aren't walled at all. But yeah, the cities in Skyrim felt a lot more natural and less "zoned", regardless of the walls. --- Ghosts are cool. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Only thing Skyrim has over Oblivion is dungeon design and a better overworld.
