Meanwhile there are millions of actual citizens who will never have that much money in their lives

Maybe if the republicans stopped giving huge tax breaks to the super wealthy more people would have more money

How, exactly, does increased taxes for Mr Moneybags end up being more money for you?

This case is pretty much textbook on why sanctuary city laws exist. Without it, you create a situation where undocumented people become afraid to report crime or cooperate with police for fear of deportation.

Well hell, why not decriminalize everything then?

We should forgive everyone who forgets to pay their speeding tickets too because if we don't they might be afraid to report other crimes

Batkid literally cost the city way more than that.

Batkid is... well, a kid, and he had cancer. This guy is an illegal. He should not be getting shit except a one-way transport back to his country.

I am not for the round up that they are doing , but I this isn't cool either. People say that is so illegals will not be scared to call the Police in fear of being deported.. hell Americans are scared to call the police already for a number of reasons.

So, some studies say that SCs actually reduce crime and improve health for that county. Other argue there is no significant effect. I think that crime reduction would be a nice byproduct of sanctuary cities if it does work properly.

Moreso, I would rather see SCs put undocumented immigrants on the path to citizenship. If SCs are already spending tax dollars (local, not federal) to assist these people, why not push them to citizenship?

This will sound sarcastic and edgy.

That's a smart and logical option but unfortunately, won't happen since citizenship is a federal issue and the federal government is controlled by Republicans currently.

The federal government can't force state authorities to enforce federal law.

That's one of the main reasons this country is supposedly so great. Conservatives wanted to preserve state rights and prevent a large authoritarian federal government.

Of course, that doesn't apply when it comes to brown people. But it's totally not about racism, guys.

May I ask what makes people so mad about this? I really don't get it. People got to live.

You really don't get why people have a problem with a criminal being given almost $200k for being arrested for his crimes?

No, but the state can cause problems for local authorities not complying with federal agents.

Yeah, but that's not what I was talking about. I was talking about the relationship between the federal government and state authorities, not the relationship between the state government and local authorities of that state.

Obviously a state can pass something like Texas's SB4, but seeing as how that's led to lawsuits from all of Texas's relevant cities, it's a gamble.

Granted, if the bill that passed the House passes the Senate it's all moot at that point.
