This has probably been stated before, but this should be restated. Even ignoring the fact that it can play EVERY DS game, and the fact that it can play a lot of the best GB and SNES games, its own library is sick as hell.

ALBW, Fire Emblem, Animak Crossing, Monster Hunter, Kirby, Pokemon, Mario, SMT, Dragon Quest, etc etc. So many damn good games. It became so good that Nintendo ended up porting half of the Wii U's exclusives over in order to make a true portable juggernaut.

Ignoring the 240p resolution, there's very little not to love about it. Especially as far as quality of games go. The Switch has one hell of a legacy to live up to.

It's sold extremely well and pretty much everyone who has one likes it. The DS/3DS line has been consistently praised from the start, even when everyone shit on Nintendo over the Wii U disaster they still acknowledged how good their handheld was. Shit when people were saying Nintendo should stop making consoles most people said they should stop with consoles but just stick to handhelds.
I wasn't aware the DS/3DS line got any hate. It's a critical and commercial success

Where have you been looking? I've been seeing a bunch of people overlooking great games like Ever Oasis and Code name Steam. Hell, a lot of people probably don't even know those games exist.

Not to mention the dozens of articles or thousands of posts you'll see commenting on the recent trend around the idea that the 3DS should die or should have been dead a long time ago. Or people shitting on it for being 240p or for being a portable console in general.

The only mistake was implementing the 3D feature before they found a way to do it right like with the New 3DS. Most games can be played with the 3D off but not all.

The hardware itself is pretty dated yeah. So that makes sense. I would rather play a game on a Vita or Switch any day if I had the choice. And the Switch just came out. How many people wanted to play Persona 5 on their PS3 once the PS4 launched?

Not really comparable to the PS3. The 3DS is very much still alive and caters to a different niche than a home console. The PS3 was LONG dead by the time P5 came out, and it covered the same niche as the PS4.

It's definitely well appreciated by the core 3DS community, but seems like a lot of people outside of the group thinks otherwise (or frankly do not care).

Maybe I wasn't being very clear. I mean I think it's library makes it at least top five (if not top three) best gaming libraries. A lot of people don't realize exactly how amazing its library is. And there's a BIG difference between being one of the best consoles of all time and just selling well. I'm sure not many gamers would say the Wii or Mobile gaming are prime examples of the potential of gaming.

Additionally, I mean that a lot of people seem to like to brush off its library or overlook some of its greats. It sold well because of Mario and Pokemon, but I wouldn't say either of those are all that great on the system. A lot of its best games sold a fraction of what those games did.

I'm talking about when it was announced for PS3 originally a few years. People wanted it on PS4 and complained until it was announced.

Same thing is happening now with the Switch and 3DS. People want to use their new hardware over the old one. It doesn't say anything about the quality of the 3DS. It happens to every console.
