Welcome to Most Excellent Fictional Character contest, where Board 8 decides the best overall fictional character ever created. Characters from every medium, far and wide are in this contest. To see the results, please visit this link:
https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/75350067#15 Round One has ended. There are 140 characters left! Round 2 will be Absolute Points! Second Round Rules - Users will be given two pools of 10 characters. They must Immune 4 characters and Boot 4 characters within the pool. - One of the three Immunes will count as a Double Immune, essentially 2 positive votes instead of one. The same Double will apply to one of the Boots, and count as two negative votes. - The 4 characters with the highest Immune to Boot ratio move on to Round 3. The 4 characters with the lowest Immune to Boot ratios are eliminated. - In order for a vote to count, there MUST be four Immunes and four Boots. - The 2 characters left over will be placed in the Round 2 Wildcards. - Rounds last 24 hours - Tiebreakers will be decided by vote-off within topics. How will you define the "ratio"? Is it # immunes / # boots? Actually, I just tried to score it this way and it creates many ties. Worked in theory in my head. :( I will score the rounds by taking the immunes - the boots. In the case of a tie (like a character with 7, 7 and one with 5, 5), the character with the most immunes will advance. Alright help me out with this then. So say you had ten hypothetical scores like this (Immunes, Boots):
(9, 2) - Immune/Boot = 4.5. Immune-Boot = 7 (7, 1) - Immune/Boot = 7. Immune-Boot = 6 (9, 5) - Immune/Boot = 1.8. Immune-Boot = 4 (7, 5) - Immune/Boot = 1.4. Immune-Boot = 2 (5, 5) - Immune/Boot = 1. Immune-Boot = 0 (5, 7) - Immune/Boot = .71. Immune-Boot = -2 (3, 5) - Immune/Boot = .6. Immune-Boot = -2 (3, 6) - Immune/Boot = .5 . Immune-Boot = -3 (1, 6) - Immune/Boot = .17. Immune-Boot = -5 (1, 8)- Immune/Boot = .13. Immune-Boot = -7 If I did a ratio Immunes/Boots, (7, 1) would be tops with a score of 7. If I did a Immunes-Boots (9, 2) would be tops with a score of 7. Nothing much else would change except the top two spots. However, with division, if a character scores 0 boots, it might be hard to divide out as well. How is this type of round usually scored in UotY? I hardly participate in any of those and the last time I did was a really long time ago, but I remember something like first the two with the most immunes (regardless of their boots, except to break ties) go through, then the two with the most boots (regardless of their boots, except to break ties) go down.
