that's fine, but that's why we heavily encourage appointments. it's not fair to the scheduled customers or the technicians to overload them with jobs that people want at the last second

No. If they had to wait for that, they should still schedule it.

my ire is directed more toward people who get aggravated when we quote them timeframes. no, I will not apologize that an oil change will take all day. ordinarily our turnaround time on stuff is pretty good, we're just slammed with maintenance jobs right now. plus a bunch of our techs started vacation in the past couple days so we're short staffed. PLUS our lane manager is still out on medical leave, so there's no real direct management to coordinate everything. it's a real shitshow lol

Yeah as long as a shop will actually tell me it's going to take all day rather than a reasonable amount of time, I don't see an issue.

One time I got pissed though because I scheduled an appointment to have my oil changed and tires rotated at 8am on a Saturday morning. Dropped my car off and took off to go have breakfast. Returned about 9:30 to see that my car hadn't moved at all. I said WTF to them, and they said "Oh, we haven't been able to get to your car yet"...it's like...an appointment isn't just a scheduled time for me to drop off my car...it's a time when you're supposed to actually start working on it. I get things can run late, but over an hour and a half is unacceptable.

we always prioritize appointments over walk-ins so stuff like that doesn't happen. worse comes to worse and something happens that delays a repair, we generally offer a shuttle ride or even a loaner/rental compensation

It is called being polite and not an asshole. People who demand stuff instantly when they could have scheduled it days if not weeks in advance should never get what they want.

The two things are not mutually exclusive. There are lots of mechanics where you can get all sorts of stuff fixed in an hour or two on a walk-in. How should anybody know whether that's true for your shop?

If they're actually an asshole, that's one thing, but I see nothing in the TT that implies such. Why would you just assuming the customer automatically knows everything like you do?

Funny enough, last year I was getting my winter tires taken off. I had an appointment at 7:45am and decided to wait while it was being done. It was early in the morning so it shouldn't have taken long. About an hour of sitting, a guy comes up to me and asks, "Are the tires under your fathers name?" I answered with, "no they're under mine." He left and came back about 45mins later and told me they couldn't find them and we would have to reschedule. I was so annoyed. Not only did I almost waste 2 hours for nothing, but why did it take them that long to tell me all of this?

Anyways, they lost my tires and bought me brand new ones.
