Well that was a meh movie. Can't believe it's by Edgar Wright. Think he may have lost his touch. There were moments that seemed to be meant as humorous but the entire movie I just thought it was ok.

It tried to be a mixture of what, guardians of the galaxy with the music, drive with the quiet driver who likes a girl that liked him back despite his strangeness (or rather because of it) and a bit of la la land in there, but never really works well like any of them. Being derivative is not necessarily bad, but this movie is just that, bad.

Of all of the remakes, adaptations, sequels and spinoffs out there... this is the film you accuse of being derivative?

The Guardians comparison makes no sense because the musical element is far heavier here and done in a different way, and there's no way they were ripping off fucking La La Land here, when that only came out this year still and it isn't even remotely similar

Also why did you say the movie is ok, and then say it's bad. Which is it?

I meant in the sense that I was going "ok?" throughout the entire movie. Baby seems trying too hard to be that quirky stranger with his extremely manufactured tragic backstory, and the "romance" was unrealistic and did not at least subvert the "oh I love you after a couple days of seeing you" disney thing like you would expect an Edgar Wright work to do, not to mention Kevin spacey's complete 180 of character motivation "oh I'll die for you I was in love once."

Also how the hell does someone who's so well connected to even have cops, have to go and clean a hideout by himself instead of sending someone to do it or at least having goons and muscle for backup? This movie is just... yeah.

Also the emphasis on music tied to childhood while not exclusively owned by guardians of the galaxy, was done way better there. That's the gotg comparison I meant.
