The ignorant and violent actions of BLM members that we hear about every week are indefensible, so the only excuse anyone can possibly make is "that person isn't really a member!" Even they clearly support the movement and had been embraced by it up until the point where they say the kind of things out loud that BLM member usually just keep behind closed doors.

That's where you're wrong. Simply choosing the name was exclusionary blacklivesmatter purposefully. They could have easily chosen blacklivesmattertoo to give the same "special attention" to black people being killed by cops without being exclusionary to all other races but they didn't.

This was of course pointed out to them at the start of the movement and instead of just saying you know that is a better non racist name, they doubled down and just said shit like your white privilege doesn't get to dictate the name of our group.

The first year of the moment was nothing but arguments about the name choice because they chose the least inclusive, most easily twisted, possible name. That should have given away their real message and goals.

An interview on national tv is more visible than a singular tweet.
Also, what she said was overtly racist and calls into question her objectivity at her job. This wasn't dog whistle racism, this wasn't a shirt, this wasn't something that could be swept under the rug.

Whatever you say. Racist comments are racist comments. You're responsible for saying them. If you say them and face consequences it's your own fault. This is no different than most other cases. We both know why you're ok with this one. It's because she supports BLM.

I suppose, do you have any specific examples to prove this supposed hypocrisy or are you just shit slinging for its own sake?
I recall defending the guys making dongle jokes at the tech conference . . . no other examples immediately come to mind. Is an industry joke really the same as overt racism coming from someone that works for a public institution?

I mean, most people, left or right, agree that this woman is a piece of garbage, why are you trying to turn this partisan?

Not turning it partisan at all. Didn't bring up politics. Didn't bring up left vs right. I'm just saying there is a bias for some ITT.

If a racist person makes a racist tweet they made a racist comment To the public. If it happens to spread around the net it's their own fault. They made the comments. If their employer sees it and as a result questions their integrity it is again their own fault. Doesn't matter if it's a dog whistle or something that can be swept under the rug. They made comments their employer didn't want to assosciate with. It's the same thing here. She just stupidly did it during an interview. Twitter and FB aren't some secret society anymore. Some may argue it's more visible these days than a CNN interview.

The problem with BLM is that it's always been a black victimization movement, not an anti-police brutality movement. The data absolutely support the notion that U.S. police brutalize their citizens in ways that are unacceptable, and that the system is in widespread need of reform. The data do not support the claim that black people are uniquely affected by this brutality, especially not when you adjust for crime rates by race, resistance of arrest rates by race, and likelihood of exhibiting aggression towards police during encounters.

Thus, the main problem with BLM is that it's based on a premise that is exaggerated at best to completely false at worst. And BLM never did itself any favors by ignoring this reality and supporting cases of justified police actions, like Mike Brown, Freddie Gray, and Sylville Smith. Rioting over those cases was how they lost the whatever mainstream support they originally had.

Had this been a non-racial anti-police brutality movement, it would have attracted people of all races and likely succeeded at police reform, which would have disproportionately benefited black people. Instead, it's an umbrella for every anti-white racist and black supremacist to unify around their shared resentment, and it's failed to accomplish anything.

Does Westboro Baptist Church disrespecting dead soldiers funerals represent the entire Republican party? This stupid bitch doesn't represent the left anymore than WBC does for the right. Nor does she represent the entire BLM movement.

And I'm saying this as someone who doesn't exactly even like the BLM movement (mainly because they lack any kind of structure) and I'm only just a smidgen left of center on the political spectrum. I just think it's extremely silly to think any one person or group of people could ever be a completely accurate representation of an entire party.

It isn't just a singular person on the left though. Radicalization on the left is the new norm. From crazy groups of BLM supporters, militant feminists, and ANTIFA this is the norm now. And the "mainstream" left doesn't do anything to criticize this kind of stuff is the main problem. Christian's overwhelmingly condemn the WBC so there is no comparison here between them.

Oh and let's not forget people like Linda Sarsour who are literally calling for Sharia Law and claiming to be feminist and getting widespread mainstream praise for their "courage."

Oh and there's this lol...

I don't know if comparing her to Westboro is fair. They're at the fringe of the fringe. Even right wing Christians don't like them because of their overt disrespect for dead soldiers. Aside from the Phelps family, they get almost no support. That I'm aware of.

This woman was an, apparently, legitimate professor at a university. I think that gives her more mainstream representation in the progressive movement than WBC has with conservatives.

Also, I'm not surprised she's in communications. I wonder if she's acquainted with Melissa Click.

essex county isn't really a university, its a county college. Many students will transfer over to NJIT or Rutgers which are right next door

interesting enough when i was working my 2nd job tonight, one of the customers was a professor who taught at essex county who was doing introduction to engineering.
