It was one if my favorite franchises as a kid and I enjoyed various spin offs and alternate versions such as The Urbz and Castaway. There used to be a ton of them but The Sims 4 ended up just being more like 3.5 with some content actually removed that 3 had plus it's not on any consoles. I know it started as a PC franchise and that's always been it's roots but the console stuff was important too. We're 4 years I to this gen and there hasn't been a Sims for console yet.

I think I'm gonna pull out my PS2 and load up The Urbz and try to bang Fergie

typical EA bullshit resulted in Maxis's big franchises turning to shit (i.e. simcity launching with always online DRM and players couldn't get online for days), and then EA decided to shut down Maxis

now they are making so much moolah with their shitty Star Wars games and Battlefield that it makes no fiscal sense for them to try and revive the Sim series

This. It's PC/Mac only. The latest DLC was released a few days ago.

I got sims 4 when it was on sale a while back. I like it better than sims 3 but its not as good as Sims 2 yet.

Also the toddlers in Sims 4 are adorable as hell

EA are an incompetent company if they're not publishing a AAA console focused title these days. The Sims should be an absolutely massive franchise in todays market.

the open neighborhood aspect was nifty, even if the game was so poorly optimized I still get stuttering on an i7 processor

There are only so many times you can force a family to commit incest and then murder them before you get bored.

The sequels added lots of stuff that should have made them better but ultimately made them less fun as it went on. The first game on PC (with expansions) was the most fun at the time of its release and it's all been downhill since then .

This. The original Sims with the first 2-3 expansions were amazing. The mod community was great. Then I bought the Sims 2 and wondered where all the content was. I soon realized the business model they were doing and never bought an expansion for Sims 2.

I never got into the series past the first one, which is probably one of my all time favorite games. I put so many hours into that first game. I think I had all of the expansions, or at least most of them.

I started with The Sims 3 (albeit back in 2012) and got hundreds of hours out of it.

Unfortunately, I didn't like how Sims 4 was shaping up, so I might not bother for at least a few more years. Knowing EA as they are now, I doubt a Sims 5 will happen.
