I've encountered it twice recently, once at an ice cream shop and another time at a coffee shop. My girl was paying both times with her card and at the end of the transaction it asked what percentage you would like to tip.

She tipped -_-

Like what the fuck, why do you deserve a tip for scooping an ice cream, or taking my order? We went to the same coffee place yesterday and I specifically paid with cash to avoid that bullshit.

It's devious in that you wouldn't even THINK about tipping until they put the worm in your ear. It's how they get you.

And away we go

I get tipping at a restaurant where they make below minimum wage, but you aren't depending on tips to subsidize your pay as a cashier.

it's just another way to squeeze money out of someone. If they don't ask for a tip in those fastfood contexts, nobody will give one. But asking makes people suddenly feel guilty if they don't, so they do.

The tip probably isn't even going to the employee since i know the workers at Panera make over minimum wage and it still asks for tips >_>

Probably goes straight to the company.
