The graphic style is bright and cel-shaded.

You just made me think of Metroid Prime done in style of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and now I hate you because I know it will never happen.

My main concern is whether it's close to being as good as Super Metroid and Metroid Prime. Graphically, I don't really care as long as it looks good enough. Bright, cel-shaded graphics I wouldn't mind that much. They could even work well if used properly.

You know I actually had that in mind when making the topic. Though only because of the art style, not sure how open world Metroid would work.

Like realistic proportions, not chibi mode?

Zero Mission had a pretty colorful artstyle so I wouldn't mind. Super gritty 'realistic' graphics end up looking outdated after a few years.

Could actually work, tbh.

Cell-shading looks fantastic if you do it right, and not much in the Metroid universe really needs to look realistic anyway. Like, you don't see a lot of human faces. The cell shaded look, as well as the bright colors could totally add contrast that you might not see in realistic shading.

But I would still prefer the Prime 1-3 style.

As long as by "bright" you mean "high contrast" and not "bright and cheery" then I don't see a problem. Metroid should retain its desolate, decaying, alien aesthetic. Cell shading can accomplish that, even though we typically associate it more with light-hearted cartoonish-looking games.

Speaking of Prime 4, it'll be interesting to see if the Phazon has any lingering effects on Samus. I know it was all destroyed, but who's to say the damage done from being damn near 100% corrupted on Phaaze isn't still there?

A cel-shaded Metroid could work if it had a Killer Is Dead-style aesthetic.

Yeah, that could work. It's dark and gritty yet still cel-shaded.

They kinda wrote themselves into a corner in this regard since the Prime games take place betwen 1 and 2.

If there are any lingering effects, they'll have to wrap them up in 4, which they already did in 3 so it'll feel like they just couldn't come up with a story. Though after Other M, that's not necessarily a bad thing...
