Played about 6 hours so far and it's better than expected. I haven't seen some of these Digimon designs since the cartoon and Digimon World on the PS1. Nanimon is a pretty wtf Digimon. He poops on my enemies. He looks like he would be smelly.

It left a bad first impression because for some reason my character was invisible and due to the structure of the game (you start off in a digital world) I had no idea it was a glitch until a couple of hours in. I just thought it was a bit janky with travelling in the overworld lol.

Is this meant to be canon to the TV show or something? Or are the talking Digimon characters just fan service?

Great game. There's a mission in Chapter 4 that's a great for exp farming. Check out the guide on the game page so you don't accidentally miss it.

Is there much need to grind? I've been swapping around a bunch of Digimon to get them to Champion and haven't had too much trouble so far. I'm playing on normal.

It's more to digivolve into the Digimon that you really want to play with. When a Digimon digivolves they can be devovled and keep the moves they learned and you can re-digivolve them down another line. It just makes it go little quicker. I kept that mission active until something like chapter 11 or 12. At that point in the game it's just that it's the most efficient spot for exp. The enemy difficulty does go up as you progress but it's not a overly difficult game or anything.

Ah fair enough. I'm surprised that I've already seen a chunk of the Digimon I know already. Got Patamon so I'm working on getting Angemon. He was my favorite back in the day lol.

The game has been really generous with EXP and levelling up so far. Which is a nice change.

Does element type matter or just the Digimon type (Data, Virus, Vaccine). It seems like only the latter does so far. Which is hard to wrap my head around after being so used to Pokémon lol

they both matter, although the data/virus/vaccine type plays a bigger role

It's that kind of game that I pick up, play for a long time, the drop, then pick up again months later to continue. I dunno, I feel it a little grindy.

The story is solid so far, though. I enjoy it for what it is, hopefully the next game polishes some things up.

Both matter, but the type is easier to take in account, as long as you have type advantage and are neutral element wise, it doesn't really make a huge difference.

I get what you mean, it reminded me of the main SMT games.

I bought this a while ago and never played it, I should get to it.

I have a JRPG void in my life since I beat Persona 5.

element is like 10% of your total damage. type is like all of your damage. it's insane.

like... if you're at type advantage and element advantage, that's your maximum damage, but just type advantage gives you almost all of that damage. the elemental damage is just a little extra oomph. likewise, if you have element advantage but you're at a type disadvantage, your damage will still be poo, even with the elemental advantage.

Ah that makes sense. I just did that Devimon/fire guy boss fight and I tried my water Digimon but because he was the wrong type it didn't do shit lol.

From memory the exp grind becomes annoying when you try to get the good mega Digimon. However most of those aren't available until you have certain items or completed parts of the story.

I think there is one side quest you don't want to complete as it offers really good exp. you'll have to look it up though as I can't remember.

Otherwise there are a few digimon and items that can increase your exp earnings. I think the max multiplier is 9.

Once you have those the mega grind is easy.
